I was surprised today to hear people have strong opinions on whether Charb picking up
the ball was "a heads-up play" or "nah, lmao, he was just picking up the ball for the ref".
I think it was a heads-up play. Yeah, he was never convinced it was going to amount to
anything, but as MM says, they teach players to pick up every loose ball. I feel like a lot
of people's opinions are based on the slo-mo replay and that makes it look like Charb is
just walking his ass over there, but watch the live speed and you see him tracking the ball
and hustling a little over to it.

I didn't realize how close the Rams player came to catching the deflection. If he would have just batted it down it wouldn't have rolled to Charb. Just an unreal series of events.

For sure, but I maintain Charb jogged to it and picked it up - just in case. That's the definition of heads-up for me.

Lost in the shuffle of that play is how terrible of a play call that was. Not only was the dude completely in the throwing land but there was another player out there that would have blown up Carbonet as soon as he caught it anyway.

Yeah I couldn't believe my eyes. Their insistence in always throwing short of the line/sideways passes is just beyond belief. Thank God they didn't try it again in OT. As I said in the game thread when you just let guys find a seam in the zone over the middle it is much shorter direct throw that massively increases the likelihood of success.

You can hear Sam in the huddle... 'Here's what we're going to do. I'll throw the ball backwards off the defender's head, it will bounce into the end zone and you simply go pick it up, Charbs. The Rams won't even see it coming'.

Regardless on if Charb should get any credit, he was the reason it turned into two points, not a bystander.

The part that I don't understand is that you can clearly hear a whistle. Then Charbonnet trots over and picks up the ball. Pretty murky.

I agree with the whistle thing, but there are apparently exceptions to the blowing of the whistle being the
never-breakable trust that people think it is, or should be. I've seen it happen before. Not in that exact situation,
but I've seen it on weird catch-fumble situations for example.
