They aren't play Shaquem at WIL anymore. Moved him to SAM and the plan is to let him rush from weakside out of the nickel. Hopefully he finds his niche . I for one am not impressed at all.

Last year the Hawks were celebrated as the diversity and inclusion darlings of the draft. The 5th rounder 141st pick Shaquem Griffin had this wonderful backstory of overcoming his uniqueness and at the same time his commonality with his twin brother. There were commercials made to inspire, the 1st game of the year Griffin was a starter the media was making it their big story. I was on board at first, the 4.3 40 speed had me at the start. When I actually seen him play he did not know what to do and was soon a special teams player.

That is no big deal many players at many positions take a hot minute to acclimate to the league. I do look at the depth chart and wonder if he makes the team. The top 3 are Wagner, Kj, and Mingo. The next tier has:

WS LB Kyle Hendricks Starter on a SB team
MLB Cody Barton 3rd Rd. pick
SS LB Martin

3rd tier
WS LB Griffin
MLB BBK 5th Rd. pick UW
SS LB Calitro

Some other names com after but I don't think they can carry even 9 LB. ( I think 7)

The conundrum: If Hawks cut the Cinderella story from last year, does Shaq Griffin allow his play and focus to be shaken. On a side note do you think the media paint the organization in a negative manner if this happens.

There are several ?s. Last year the Hawks broke camp with 10 DL I have them for 9 but I have them not keeping Christmas, Naz Jones, and one of their top 4 DT Meder. That is good rotational depth.
RBs last year they had 5 plus a FB, I have them 4 +1 and added a WR over 2018.
LB Say they keep 1 of the 3rd tier LB BBK is a local guy and a 5th Rd. pick same as Griffin. Griffin is a 50-50 pick even at linebacker but he is a bubble guy with several other position groups even a guy like 2nd rounder SB Blair is in direct competition for those last spots on position groups.

I don't think the brother is a lock to make the team either.

If he can't make the team ..he can't make the team. People were speculating the same crap with Bennett. No one cares. You have to produce. Shaquill is a lock. If not having his brother on the team effects his play. That is gonna cost him alot of money.

Seattle struggled to find a way for Griffin to make an impact, which led to the offseason change. Rather than playing off the line of scrimmage, Griffin will be on the edge, allowed to play in space, and will both rush the passer and drop into coverage.


It’s a return to what he did at Central Florida when he was one of the most disruptive players in college football.

“It’s the exact same thing. I’m rushing, I’m dropping, I’m going man-to-man coverage, I’m setting the edge. I have so much time,” Griffin said. “I remember so much from college on how I need to set the edge and what’s best for me and how I need to use it that it just snapped right back as soon as they put me there. I’m having so much fun again. It’s just such a big difference because I feel so comfortable.”

We are just a few days into organized team activities, and Carroll already likes what he’s seen out of Griffin in that role.

“He looked comfortable playing on the edge,” Carroll commented after OTAs on Tuesday. “We’ve already had him outside some and he’s had a chance to blitz a little bit more so he’s getting started. It looks very comfortable for him to demonstrate that flexibility, which is a real asset for us.”

Griffin’s flexibility is not only an asset to the Seahawks, but it’s the quality most likely to keep him on the roster in 2019.

The pressure is on for Seattle Seahawks cornerback Shaquill Griffin as he prepares to enter his third season in the league. The pressure, however, is coming mostly from himself.

“Just focused on individual goals I felt like I put too much pressure, because if I didn’t meet that, I felt like I was doing something wrong or that I wasn’t good enough,” Griffin told reporters after an OTA workout this month. “So that pressure was all on myself and the mindset that I had. That’s the mindset I had to change.”

Coach Pete Carroll agrees a change of mind for Griffin might be exactly what he needs.

“Trying too hard is a big problem,” Carroll said after minicamp last Tuesday. “And sometimes we’re trying to make things happen that aren’t there, you know. I think he is determined. He was not satisfied with the season last year. He had a really solid rookie season and expected to really take a big jump and didn’t make the jump that he wanted to. So it’s really focused him on really setting his sights on the preparation and it’s obvious he’s done it, he’s put in the work.”

While Griffin’s second season wasn’t spectacular, he did manage 62 combined tackles and two interceptions in 2018. He and Carroll are only looking ahead for now.

“His mentality is great and I would think that maybe that jump he was counting on then might happen at this time and we’re expecting him to really do it and have a terrific season.”

I like to explore and listen to other peoples insight.
If Griffin does have something like 4.3-4.4 40 speed and 220# he could be a wonderful part time piece. Certainly a special teams standout. But the more I think about it a passing down speed menace. a Nickle or dime package linebacker against Back-receiver loaded packages seems like a nice weapon. The blitz instinct and the fact having him roving around presenting a threat to attack or drop in coverage seems like a nice wrinkle. I mean 4.3 speed taking advantage of a stunt opened window? Wam!

I like that chance and I think the Hawks are loaded at line backer.
