Niners' Compensatory Picks

Post by maoling » Fri Mar 10, 2023 4:12 pm

Not sure how all this works, but it looks like bullshit to me. The Niners were awarded SEVEN compensatory picks in the coming draft. Three of those picks were awarded because minority hires, coaches and other staff, have left to take jobs with other organizations.

So now a team can get extra picks for being "more woke?" Is that what I'm reading, or did I miss something?

DT, maybe we should bet on the Niners this year, instead of the Hawks. Looks the fix is in for SF.

Wait, what? First of all, how does adding picks based on the color of the skin of a coach make sense? Second? If the coach is LEAVING the 49ers, doesn't that mean some OTHER team has made them a better offer than the Niners? Why the FUCK would you reward the team that refuses to pay the guy what someone else is willing to pay? That can't be right.

And yet, it appears to be so. Also, the Rams get four and the Cardinals get three. Hawks get none. So, out of 37 compensatory picks awarded throughout the league, the NFC West is getting 14 of them. And of those, the Niners are suddenly getting three third-round picks because a minority staff member took another job elsewhere. These picks come in a draft year where they had four picks, and now suddenly have 11. What a bunch of shit. This is astounding to me.

I guess the Hawks should start calling all their minority coaches the N word all day until they get fed up and leave for another team and then we would get picks.

Right? I mean, again, I have to be deciphering this wrong right? You REWARD the team that didn't do enough to KEEP their minority hires? Draft picks as compensation for minority hiring is bad enough, but for having a minority LEAVE? What if they are fired? Why not invent a bunch of positions for minorities, use all your third and fourth round draft picks, maybe even others as trade bait one year, then fire all those hires and load up on picks? The NFL has done some very stupid shit, but this might be the stupidest I can recall.

Hire a minority, don't do enough to keep them as an employee, GAIN a draft pick when they walk away. Genius.

They walk away to be a GM

The job needs to be a promotion.
. Clubs that develop a diverse employee who is hired in the position of Primary Football Executive or Head Coach at another club, will receive a draft choice compensation in the form of a compensatory draft pick in the third round in each of the next two drafts.

Fine, hire them to as the lowest level possible, and then promote the shit out of them to everyone in the league. I hire a minority to be my ball boy, and he gets a new job in LA as a Locker Room attendent...BOOM, draft pick. Fucked up.

Reading that article it seems it needs to be head coach or higher exec. Seems odd the 49ers had that many. I'd look for that rule to change real quick now.

You hire them for their talent not because they are minorities. That's what gets them jobs as GMs and coaches. That's the beauty of it, you can't take advantage of it. What it requires is taking the time to find talented minority hires. You're rewarded when another team visualizes the same talent you originally invested in
