Hawks vs. Browns Final Tune-up

Did Mcdonald say not many starters would play or am I just making up shit again?
I can see it both ways. You don't want to risk a key injury in preseason game, but it would be nice to see the starting unit in there for a couple series.

Starters NEVER play in the final Preseason game.

I think it is to get every team healthy as possible in case of dings and injuries in camp or preseason, plus late signings and roster tweaking. Also Macdonald said starters would play against the Browns, so we will see who and for how long.

I think this looks like the most logical explanation. Last minute injuries, and signings moving out from one camp and coming to a new team learning their playbooks, travel, etc.

“The plan is you’ll see a lot of starters to start the game,” Macdonald said. “How many reps and all that it kind of on a per person type basis. But the plan is to see a good amount of the guys. We got a couple nicks and bruises here. We’ll hold some guys out so there’s some guys you might not see that you might expect. For the most part, most of the starters will start the game. Geno (Smith) included.”

Because the players threw a fit about the added regular season game. No way were they going to start camp and pre season later, and I can’t imagine having games on Labor Day weekend was all that appealing. So they removed a game from the preseason. Would be interesting to know why they didn’t just start the preseason games a week later though.
