Postmortem: Seahawks v Packers

Post by auroraave » Mon Dec 16, 2024 4:32 pm

That game sucked by gosh by golly...
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Hawks embarrassed, 'twas quite the folly...
fa la la la la la la la la.
They donned those Lime greens, such gay apparel...
Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Alright, that's as far as I'm taking that.

Let the hand wringing begin! Be sure to lubriderm!

Grubb sucks!
Oline sucks!
Geno sucks!
Howell sucks even more!
Fire Schneider now!

Does that about cover it?

The cold hard reality is that Seattle got smoked by a better team, in a better division, and they were out coached and out schemed by a veteran staff. I'm not on the "fire anyone" bandwagon, I am simply tipping my cap to a much better team.

To be clear, 2024 Seahawks are not ready for prime time, or, NR4PT as I like to say. They are a top-three team in a weakened -four team division and I think we just watched their playoff chances walk out the door, no, check that, playoff hopes have been sacked. It's okay, it's alright.

This team is just too schizophrenic - I thought they would be able to be the team that is better than the sum of their parts - while they have good parts, and the defense is showing signs of what could be, the offense continues to be a huge liability - also - despite having good parts.

Last night I decided Geno has to go. I've been a big advocate for him, believed he gives us the best chance to win, has such a beautiful arm, but the kid has 14 INT's this season - many of them at critical times - as we saw last night. The INT in the end zone wasn't a drive killer, it was a game killer.

I saw no path back from that, and to make it worse, Seattle settling for field goals just is not going to get it done in a heavy weight match-up.

Some atrocious penalties. That opening drive hit on Jordan Love was so far out of bounds, so bad, he deserves a fine if not suspension - and if the NFL doesn't do it, Mike Macdonald needs to - that was embarrassing and as unsportsmanlike as it gets. Huge costly penalties were only part of the meltdown.

But let's give credit where credit is due - GB is the real deal, they made fantastic plays, Love was absolutely dialed in, making all the throws against Seattle's rush Geno simply is not making. The GB defense looks very formidable, bull rushing at will with only four. That's just a better all-round team.

Our kick returner was a bright spot!

I don't understand the play calling, which is easy to say when plays aren't working, but I legit don't understand long developing pass plays against huge pressure - it defies logic. We have some big receivers, where are the shorter, quick routes? Nah, I'm not ringing the 'fire Grubb" bell, this may be his learning curve, he will get better - he will adapt - or he won't. First season in the NFL is hard, from what I hear), and I have seen a lot of clever concepts in his book, I am holding out hope he is growing into the position, these are the growing pains - hopefully.

I see no path to the playoffs at this point - and I'm not even that disappointed. I don't want to see this shit show embarrassed. Their only shot is a wild card and it looks like both WC's will be coming from the NFC north - Minnesota and GB - and that is officially the toughest division in the NFL this year. They'll likely get smoked by Minnesota, give up against the Bears, and finish their streaky season on a four game losing streak when the suddenly angry Rams do what they always do to us when it matters - kick our lame asses to the curb like we're the JV team. In some ways, we are.

Time to consider draft positioning as a priority. Seattle has not had top picks in forever - last year's donkey pick excluded. We need another solid draft, need to add to the LB room, need to add to the receiver room, need to add to the QB room, and yeah, need some oline help. I still think there is talent on the oline, it just isn't coming together yet - and there is absolutely some culpability to be had in Ryan Grubb and his play calling that doesn't seem to take line play into account.

I honestly thought Seattle would take it to GB, make this their coming out party, and I suppose it was, but for all the wrong reasons. It also showed how good GB is - and that that NFC North Division is as a whole.

I want to be pissed about this game - but I'm not. This team is not there yet, they still make incredibly dumb mistakes and have a young coaching staff still finding their way. I'm looking forward to seeing them evolve and where this team goes, but right now, they have too many holes, starting at the QB and LB positions, but they also have a lot of nice pieces in place for a foundation.

go hawks...

The insertion of Howell actually made me appreciate Geno even more. Howell appeared to have exactly zero amount of time to set and throw the ball. Which makes Geno's ability even that much more incredible. At least, in my opinion.

And when the best player on your team is the punter, well...

Truth is, this game could have been a lot more lopsided.

Here it comes... the end of season game against the Rams to determine the division. And we all know how that's going to go.

add to the LB room, how about a QB? I keep reading here how they need to move on from Geno, okay what's the plan exactly? It's like talks cheap, the time is approaching to make a decision. Give him an extension this off season or cut him loose, which is it? Then bank on drafting a replacement?

I was telling my son last night, doesn't it feel like all of this playoff discussion was about a year early anyway? I think we could have played better, we could have been better prepared, but I don't know if we beat them two out of ten times when we play them. We aren't there yet.

I don't think the answer is in the upcoming draft. Glad this isn't my decision to make. The answer just might be sticking with Captain RedZone turnover and improving the O Line to see if that is enough, and drafting the replacement at QB later.

Yeah, that's pretty much my feeling. Maybe as Seahawks fans we've been kinda spoiled. It's not a big deal moving on with qbs. Go talk to a bears fan. I think Geno wants a new contract. You could sign him to a two Year extension. Some here might howl but I think that's what you're looking at

Was anyone else digging the bit about what a great coach Lafleur is? Apparently even stellar coaches like him make mistakes.

Pete used to have a saying about blowouts. You're never as good as you looked when you win a blowout and you are never as bad as you looked
when you lost a blowout. This game was a blowout, even if the score wasn't bonkers.
As far as Howell's inability to do anything, does that mean Geno was doing way better in an on-point comparison? I don't know.
Geno was getting sacked too and threw another retarded pick before he got hurt. Instead of playing prevent in almost garbage time and
risking letting Howell get his confidence, Lafleur brought the house and ended all discussion. This was smart. Double tap mafia style.
We'll have a better idea if Howell gets a week of 1st string reps and plays a complete game. I predict Howell will still fail, BTW.

Eisen is saying that the Seahawks' season is over after the loss to GB. Yet Florio and Simms say that the Packers displayed championship potential by beating them. But if they suck so bad, then how can a team display championship potential by beating them?
