Here's PFF's grades for interior DL...
Based on that it looks pretty bad that Carter and Vea got in over Williams. Then again, they have Poona Ford at #5.

At this point can anyone intelligently try to argue that Schneider has built a quality roster? He brought in a bunch of junk last off-season much like his Mariners counterpart. The difference is that he tried to correct his mistakes, but still...

I wouldn’t call signing Williams to an extension or trading for Ernest Jones junk…Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2025 8:57 pmAt this point can anyone intelligently try to argue that Schneider has built a quality roster? Williams might make the all pro team instead of the pro bowl

Re: Pro Bowl selections
Yeah those two moves were good. I was talking about players he added in the off-season like Shennault, Dee Williams, Baker, Dodson, Brown, Hankins. How did those work out?
Tomlinson has been okay and Jenkins was playing well before the injury, but everyone else has been a disappointment.

Re: Pro Bowl selections
I always thought Ponna Ford was a pretty good player for a UDFA for the Hawks. But I would not have had him as a top 5 interior DL. He was 5th on that list right behind Williams. But Williams appears to be on another level, this year Willaims has 9 sacks, vs 3 for Ford. Based on a 17 game average Williams gets 5.7 sacks, 22 QB hits, and an 8 AAV a year vs Ford 2 sacks, 5QB hits and a AAV of 5.
But who of our Hawks brain trust her on the scream: Sign Poona Ford and pair him with Williams to have 2 out of the top 5 interior DLs?
What if our interior DL was this"
so far
Willaims #4 9 sacks
Ford #5 3 sacks
Reed #27 4.5 sacks
and then
Byron Murphy who was a mild disappointment (1 sack) but still had a lot of positives to offer including:
Ranks among DL (3-4 DL /team)
Solo tackles 50th
34th in hurries.
That would have made for a hell of a rotation.

This is the season where JS worth truly shows. No Pete pulling the strings.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2025 10:57 pmYeah those two moves were good. I was talking about players he added in the off-season like Shennault, Dee Williams, Baker, Dodson, Brown, Hankins. How did those work out?

And I don't think it's seems much different from seasons past. I think the roster has always been largely up to JS. He's the GM, that's his Jobacctingman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 4:27 pmThis is the season where JS worth truly shows. Re: Pro Bowl selections
I don't understand how Ford got a higher pass rush grade than Williams. When adjusted for pass rush snaps LW has a 1.75:1 advantage in pressures, a 2.3:1 advantage in sacks, a 1.7:1 advantage in QB hits, and a 1.7:1 advantage in hurries. The only explanation i can come up with is that Williams graded significantly worse than Ford on the pass rush snaps where they didn't compile one of the above stats. Maybe he takes more plays off than Ford?Pharmabro wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 6:15 amI always thought Ponna Ford was a pretty good player for a UDFA for the Hawks. Re: Pro Bowl selections
I think had Carroll remained it is more likely that Bobby stays also. He probably would have been on board with drafting Murphy, Haynes and Knight and dumping Adams and Diggs though. Don't know about the FAs what kind of input he would've had there.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 5:09 pmAnd I don't think it's seems much different from seasons past.
