Re: Jim Moore goes full blown dumb ass
I think there is a pretty significant delineation between the regular season which ends around Thanksgiving and a Bowl game which is typically at least a month later. There are also weeks of additional practices which we know as Seahawk fans are apparently like negotiating an injury land mine rivaling the worst in the Middle East.

Re: Jim Moore goes full blown dumb ass
you keep arguing this is about fans, this has nothing to do with fans, to me its being a part of the Husky football team. It has nothing to do with how meaningful a game is or what fans think of it. If they don't want to be part of the team fine, they are not anymore. And that is because its the last game of their careers, so fine, take a hike.
What if its not their last game, what if it just happens to be the last game of the season and the standings have been settled, so its not meaningful in your mind. Should they be able to go to the coach and say, hey this game isn't meaningful enough for us, so we decided not to play, what would a coaches reaction be to that? Maybe they could take a vote before each game and the players could decide if its meaningful enough to them to be willing to participate. I think its a BS attitude toward their school and their team,

Not a bad point at all. I would just say this: they are playing a non-power-five team and i think there is an added importance to win this one because of how it would look to potential recruits if they don't. There is also the unfortunate circumstance that their opponent is the program that came to prominence under Petersen's direction and that he left ostensibly in order to move up the career ladder. For that reason, this game is of even greater significance to him. I think these players owe it to him to show up and try to get him the victory in his final hurrah as a head coach (well, perhaps).D-train wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 4:06 pmI think there is a pretty significant delineation between the regular season which ends around Thanksgiving and a Bowl game which is typically at least a month later. Seems some players think that the NCAA and schools owe them more than scholarships room and board and free uni's as well. Perhaps when the NCAA starts paying players they can put in their contract mandates that they have to play in bowl games to get bonuses.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 5:41 pmNot a bad point at all. Seems you have flipped your whole personal philosophy on this one. Now you are sticking up for the man, the big bad NCAA and Universities and f the poor little guy who is lucky to have been allowed to play football and go to school for free. And that's the thanks he gives? Guessing if I would have agreed with Moore you would be on the other side of the argument which would have been much more consistent with most of your arguments.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 4:13 pmyou keep arguing this is about fans, this has nothing to do with fans, to me its being a part of the Husky football team. I am talking about my school, i am a Husky, they are Huskies...I think they should play the game, if the don't want to fine, but they are no longer Huskies. Again, the only thing that makes this work is it being their last game of their careers. You tell me, what if its some other game of the schedule, and they decide they didn't feel like playing it, do they continue being Huskies? They want to go out like this, fine. I think its rather weak

You remember when the spring game was against the Alumni? Guys coming back to play in a meaningless game, Rick Redmond, Ben Davidson, that was a great tradition for awhile. Maybe it was the NCAA that ruined it but I fail to see a lot of tradition these days. I think if you went back 20-30 years, guys not wanting to play the final bowl game of their career would be pretty much unheard of. I doubt they feel much of a connection to the program. Sorry but I really don't buy into that attitude these days.

http://community.seattletimes.nwsource. ... lug=uwfb21"It was a big deal," said former UW coach and player Jim Lambright, who played in the game as both a Husky and as an alumnus, and also coached in a few. "It was very similar to a home game against a lesser opponent where you had about half the seats full."
The varsity-alumni game was the brainchild of coach Jim Owens, who in the spring of 1961 wanted to give fans a way to honor the graduated members of the 1960 Huskies, all of whom had just helped UW go 10-1 for the second straight year, winning the Rose Bowl at the end of each season.
The alumni were so excited about the concept that "we had more guys than we knew what to do with," said Don McKeta, a halfback from 1958 to 1960. "It was all the guys who had just played in the Rose Bowl, and we ran all the same plays."
The alumni won 6-0 in front of 9,500 and what became a 15-year tradition — one that held increasing importance in a time before any pro sports franchises called Seattle home — was born.
The alumni, usually coached by one of their own — McKeta and Hugh McElhenny were among those who held coaching duties — would generally hit town a week or so before, spending their days working out and their nights, uh, reminiscing.
"There were a few hangovers that carried themselves out onto the field," Lambright said with a laugh.

Yeah, because Anthony Gordon is being projected as a high draft pick? He has nothing to compare this too. Name the last time a Cougar was projected to go high in the draft? I could be wrong, but I can't think of any. Both Adams and Bryant are projected to go in the first two or three rounds. Their team is 7 and 5 and playing in the freaking Vegas Bowl four days before Christmas. They have both also battled injuries their entire career...and is the one issue that might hurt their draft stock the most, so they need to risk that?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 3:27 amwhat is dumb ass about it?...He is making a point about players that sit out their bowl games, it doesn't really have to do with the Huskies specifically.
like he says there...that is his job, to take positions on issues, what do you think about it? Its their decision, but I think they should play. I think in the end they could regret not playing, their last game with their teammates, a celebration, thought that was what bowl games were about? It does seem to me to be taking caution too far.I’m not trashing on these kids because they’re Huskies. If WSU quarterback Anthony Gordon pulled out of the Cheez-It Bowl, I’d trash on him too.
If this was a New Year's six bowl they'd be playing. Since it isn't, point your fingers at the dumbasses coaches that couldn't turn the talent on this offense into what it should have been. Not one game they lost wasn't winnable, and as a matter of fact, the only game I didn't curse the coaching staff after was the Utah game. Eason shit his pants in that game or we win that too.
If you are a projected high round pick and you choose to play in the Post Raison Bran Bowl, or what ever.... more power to you. If you don't, criticism by some dumb ass Cougar Homer is stupid. And throwing out the idea that Anthony Gordon is in any way shape or form a logical comparison makes that dolt look even stupider than normal....and that is hard ass work.

We were a one or two loss team if the guys that ARE paid to do a job had done one. Point your fingers at the coaches. If I played on this offense I'd have a hard time risking millions to play on the 21st of December.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 11:43 amWe should care about winning bowl games, especially against top 25 teams. It matters to recruiting. When players choose to sit out it's disrespectful to the coaches trying to build a program as well as the fans.

Jacob Eason spent an entire Spring and Summer in competition with a guy that shouldn't be the Kicker on a JV team. What do these guys owe this staff? Good lord, I love it when a grown ass man tells a kid he should risk millions for the school! Read and article about Trey Adams and try to tell me that kid owes us ANY more than he has already given.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 5:41 pmNot a bad point at all.
