Don't know how an AD can hire a disaster of a Basketball coach and a disaster of a football coach and keep their job. But this is Seattle so those making the decision are probably just super stoked about the women's volleyball, softball and crew.

The sad thing is we shouldn't have even needed Morris to win this game. We are frickin UW who historically runs the ball down peoples throats. We should have been able to hand the ball off 40 times in this game and score 4 TD's. Instead our crap O-line couldn't generate any push against a bunch of underweight D-2 rejects. We are going to lose by 4 scores next week.
It took Montana one drive to realize that we wouldn't and couldn't go down field....so they stacked the box. I don't care if it is Michigan or Montana....if there are 8 and 9 in the box? It's hard to throw, and if you have a QB that won't check out cuz he is scared?

Just hard for me to blame the run game when it is painfully obvious we have ZERO ability to throw. Not sure about missing 3 of 4 top receivers. The two transfers played, Davis played, what 3 where missing?
Our running backs got 70 yards in a game that was within 1 score the entire way. Its Frickin Montana. I don't care if they put 11 in the box. We should have the athletic superiority to just physically push them 4 yards down the field. Instead we got dominated on the line of scrimmage.
About sums it up.

I still think you guys are missing the fact that there were more bodies in the box than we had blockers. Anyone with a competent QB shreds that. That was what made Browning the OPY his Sophomore year. But, he had weapons outside and a decent play caller. And was 400 times better that year than Morris ever will be.

Lake has chased off our best WRs, been a big failure in recruiting, runs a bullshit nickel and dime package all game like we are facing Mike Leach, chased off the best DC we have had and promoted a LB coach that was in charge of the worst unit on our defense to DC and hired a nobody as OC. This collapse shouldn’t have sunrises me...but damn, it sure did.

I was a fan during 0 and 12, and not sure I’ve ever felt this bad about a team or a loss. Why do we keep saying that? Year after year, under this staff, we have utter face plants like this. I feel Jen had to hire Lake, I mean shit, CP all but forced her hand by saying publicly he should get the job. But the defense was better under Kwiatkowski and we have now seen five games worth of shit on offense under Lake and Donovan. It was a ridiculous hire, and so was promoting Gregory.

After letting this lose fester over night I honestly feel worse. We are in serious trouble.

Yeah, it's pretty sobering to realize that a Big Sky team has a more competent coaching staff than UW. How did we get here? What did CP see in Lake? I'm starting to think he just didn't give a damn what happened to the program after he stepped down, was mainly concerned about looking good to the woke fan base.

There are too many face plant losses like this where we look unprepared and out coached. I don’t get it. I am not even watching on All 22, and when we had the second down run where they went 9 in the box, Morris stared it down and didn’t have the balls to check out? I don’t care if it is Michigan, Montana or freaking Prosser...they load up 9 in the box they will probably stop your run, and if you can’t beat a stacked box by letting your QB attack it? You are fucked. We? Are fucked.

I don’t know how many four and five star elite 11 QBs have to come in here and fail before more people than me wonder what the fuck they are being coached!? Browning was the best we had? I mean, the dude is little, maybe smaller than Morris. It is almost as if that is all they know. Smallish signal callers that don’t have big arms. Hell, we get one with a big arm and we spent half the season going Wildcat on 3rd down? Why in the fuck do we consider the University of Washington football program a good place for offensive coaches to learn? How about we hire someone that knows what they fuck they are doing already? Smith, Hamden, Donovan? All have one thing in common, they have all either never been an OC before coming here (Smith and Hamden) or been fired as an OC because they sucked (Donovan). Last night was an all time low....and I watched 0 and 12. I was in the stadium when #1 Washington got beat by Fucking Navy. I have watched Oregon win like 12 of 14 against us....nothing as bad as the bullshit I witnessed last night. Glad I am like most other people on the West Coast and don’t have the PAC 12 Network.

Lake on Morris...
Last week, Lake said Morris “has taken his game to new heights. I don’t want to put a metric on it. But I know you guys saw it. All the open practices that we had (in fall camp), you guys saw his progression. He makes the throws.

“In turn, what you guys don’t see is he gets us in good plays. We call a bad play into a front that we don’t want to go into, or a coverage or blitz, and he gets us out of that play and gets us into a really successful play. It turns into a touchdown. It turns into a 20-yard gain. Those are the things you can’t see obviously from the naked eye. But what you guys did see was an accurate thrower, a quarterback making really good decisions and getting it to the open player and not forcing it.”

Lake with lame excuses, sounds like a loser...
“As extremely disappointed as (the fans) are, so are we — our whole team and our whole staff,” UW head coach Jimmy Lake said. “We wish this could have been a better outcome for them. I want to thank them for coming out. We’re going to go back to work and try to make sure they want to come back the next time. But this is extremely disappointing, and we’ll get better from this.”

Offensively, at least, it would be literally impossible to get a whole lot worse.

Against a Montana team that lost its past two games against FBS opponents by a combined score of 98-10, Washington managed seven measly points. Those came on the opening drive of the game — a nine-play, 78-yard march that included 34 rushing yards by Richard Newton and a 1-yard quarterback sneak score by second-year starter Dylan Morris.

Then, darkness. Disappointment. Historically inexcusable ineptitude.

Specifically, Morris completed 27 of 46 passes for 226 yards and three interceptions — the last of which effectively ended the game on the Griz 33-yard line with 31 seconds left. And the Husky offensive line Lake called “extremely veteran, talented and deep” five days ago paved the way for just 65 rushing yards and 2.4 yards per carry, while allowing a trio of drive-deflating sacks.

“I wouldn’t say I’m shocked,” Lake said, after being asked specifically if he was shocked by the final result. “We had a lot of respect for coach (Bobby) Hauck and his team. We told our team all week long that this is a formidable opponent. It’s always one of the top opponents in the FCS. So I wouldn’t say it’s a shock.

“We did want a different result, obviously. We want to win all the games we’re matched up in. So whether it’s an FCS opponent or an FBS opponent, we want to win. But they played better than us tonight, so we’re not going to make any excuses. Credit goes to Montana.”

More fun stuff...
This was a historically bad defeat

There seemed to be two scenarios coming into the game: One, the Huskies win easily, but hey, a ranked team playing a lower division team at home should roll, or two, the Huskies struggle to win and leave a fanbase – if not coaches – very worried with much tougher foes looming.

Instead, a third scenario, a Montana win that seemed unthinkable, took place. This was a disaster for coach Jimmy Lake and the Huskies. There is no way to sugarcoat it.

Montana is a very good FCS team, but FCS is the key word. Pac-12 contenders do not lose to Big Sky teams. Or at least they should not. There is no doubt this is one of the worst losses in UW history.

Oregon State’s 21-20 win over Washington in 1985 when the Huskies were favored by about 38 points, is often ranked as the worst loss in school history. But Oregon State was a Pac-12 team. Can’t argue with anyone who wants to make the loss to Montana No. 1 on the list of the worst losses.
Offensive line woes

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the game was how badly the UW offensive line performed in the first half after the game-opening touchdown drive. The running backs were getting hit near or behind the line of scrimmage and Morris was sacked twice in the first half.

And it wasn’t that much better in the second half. That is very puzzling as a veteran UW offensive line was supposed to be one of the strengths of the team.

Sure, Montana knew UW was playing without its top receivers. But you would think a ranked FBS team could tell an FCS team the exact play it was going to run and still be somewhat successful.

If UW can’t run the ball against Montana, how is it going to be able to run in the Pac-12?

I am sick to death of the finger pointing at the O Line. Again, Michigan, Montana or Mt Si High School. If they stack 8 and 9 in the box it is hard to run against that, and when your noodle arm Qb isn't good enough to beat that, smart enough to check out of a play, or good enough to call a pass play against that that extends past the five yard are that the defense is packed into? You are fucked. We are fucked. That kid can't play football at this level, I mean, that was an FCS defense that he threw three picks against and looked more scared than Russ Wilson when he sees Aaron Donald! It was flat out disgusting....the O Line wasn't great. But the game plan by a shitty OC was awful and the QB play was down right disgusting. But, instead of calling out his shitty OC and his shitty QB? We hear excuses about missing WRs and poor O Line play. Bullshit. You got outcoached and your QB stinks.

It really was like watching the hawks against the Rams. Loaded box, Donald is in the hole, oh well, that is the play coach called. We had ZERO answer. Montana was terrible, and the FG attempt at the end of the game? Flat out stupid ass decision. But, when the other team's QB is that bad and the game plan on offense is that terrible? Doesn't matter.

If I was Lake I would play the end of that game on a loop for the rest of the year...in the hall ways, the bathroom stalls, the locker room, the bus ride. Watch as an FCS school dances around on the W. The problem is? It sounds to me like the coaches are already coming up with excuses. The worst part of yesterday was knowing our staff is dreadful.

Absolutely spot on about the OL not deserving the blame. that last devastating 10 yard sack on Morris was completely on him - he rolled out away from protection against the blitzing OLB, should make him miss 99% of the time in that situation but he couldnt even get a throw off or beat him around the edge for what could have been significant yardage. If you had switched sides of the two QBs Saturday, UW romps to a 20-point victory. I'll agree with Vorel on blaming staff for overlooking the opponent and misjudging offensive talent, but cant judge the playcalling one way or another with the 4 top receivers out and Morris' horrific performance. still have hope for that if they can find a QB.

Wont be a soft landing if Huard has to debut in Ann Arbor - for his sake might try the grad transfer first then break Sam in a game or two later.

Again, I guess what we are saying is that a FCS school has more talent in the secondary than our second string WRs? If that is the case we need to take a good hard look at two things. Why can't we recruit talent at this spot, and when we do, why do they transfer out?

I have my theory, and it is Puka and Ty saw this coming. The kid you saw shit his pants for four quarters on Saturday against an FCS team was going to be the guy trying to get the ball to them. They got out while the getting was good.

How did UW's 3 top receivers get injured between the last practice scrimmage and this game? How does that happen?
