Am I a hypocrit?

Something tells me I would be screaming right now about Romar. I would be furious that he seemed to only be able to win BEFORE he got his own players. I gave Romar the benefit of the doubt for awhile because of all the Sweet 16s, but besides taking an unimpressive squad to the NIT and winning one game in the NCAAs with a bunch of Seniors left over from Romar...what has Hop done? Jaylen Nowell was Romar's guy right? Hop got him to stay, but he was a Romar recruit?

I get that EVERY scout in America missed on McDaniels, jeez is he not a basketball player, athlete, but not a basketball player. But what about the rest of these guys? Carter looks like he has never played offense in his life when he isn't running free for a dunk, Wright just matched his career highs in points and rebounds last night, great new right? Nope, 12 points and 9 boards are both career highs for the player of the year from his State? Timmons couldn't play for Gonzaga Prep, apparently there isn't a capable PG on the entire roster, and if it wasn't for Stewart, this team might have about five wins right now. But, he can't touch the ball. HOW did this happen? Check out a few of these gems...
It’s their fourth defeat in a game in which they led by at least 10 points after halftime, including a heartbreaking 64-61 overtime loss to then-No 8 Oregon in their previous outing.
In the last five minutes in Pac-12 games, teams are shooting 72 percent from the two-point line and 8 for 11 from the three-point line against us,” the UW coach said. “Those are staggering numbers.
And it’s yet another underwhelming performance that drops Washington (12-8, 2-5 Pac-12) into a tie at the bottom of the conference standings.
The BOTTOM? They went from beating a team that is now #1 in the Nation to the Bottom of a mediocre Conference? Would we not be all over Romar right now?
The Utes missed 30 of 59 shots, but they collected 18 offensive rebounds and dominated the glass 38-29.
18 Offensive Rebounds? How does that happen unless you seriously don't give a damn?
“Couldn’t get a rebound,” Hopkins said. “We lost Jaden. We lost Hameir. And we just couldn’t get a rebound. Guys need to fight more. Bottom line.”
Bullshit. Both those kids were on the floor at one point when we gave up 5 Offensive Boards on the same freaking possession! WTF!?
“I think the foul line changed the trajectory of the game,” he said. “I don’t know if they’re just more aggressive than we are. I don’t know. But that happens. They went to the foul line a lot and that was the difference in the game.”
Utah converted 24 of 32 free throws while UW was 11 of 14 at the line.
Don't think, know. Simply from listening to the radio, and those poor announcers tried so hard to sound up beat, but with every stupid play they would recall all the dumb ways we have lost in the past...but it is obvious why we don't get to the line. Our offense involves two things...firing it around the perimeter until a below average shooter burps up a three....or driving to the hole with absolutely no control and no clue.
Wright picked up his fifth foul on an offensive rebound while McDaniels hit Mikael Jantunen in the head and drew a technical foul — his fourth of the season — with 2:32 remaining.
4 Ts? What a pshycho! I seriously have zero self control. And in an entire youth that culminated as a Senior in HS and then about 15 years of City League were refs are worse than they are in HS? I've had one technical. For the love of all that is holy....4! In 20 games? He draws a T once out of every four games!? Dude, this season is over...he is poison. Tell him to prep for the NBA D league somewhere else.

Inexplicably, freshman star Isaiah Stewart attempted just eight shots against a Utah team that had nobody inside who could stand up against him.
This seems to go hand in hand with these two statements.
Hopkins couldn’t make sense of some questionable decisions by Jaden McDaniels (more on this later). The UW coach also didn’t understand Nahziah Carter’s shot selection with 29 seconds left when he settled for a fadeaway jumper in the lane instead of attacking the rim.
It might be inexplicable, but it isn't unexplainable. The basketball is in the hands of selfish players that have zero basketball IQ. Carter and McDaniels would rather look good than watch Stewart eat. Look good and lose instead of be a team mate and win. End of story. As I said, this season is over, and these two wouldn't play much if I was running this ship. Develop the kids that might actually want to be a part of a winning culture and not play AAU basketball.
Still, Stewart finished with 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting. When he did get the ball, Utah did a great job of defending him without fouling.
A team that struggles to score, has an unstoppable force down low, he made 75% of his shots....and only took 8. Brilliant.
After reviewing the monitor, the officials gave McDaniels a dead-ball technical during a sequence in which Utah made four free throws and retained possession of the ball.
On the next play, McDaniels fouled Rylan Jones on a three-pointer to collect his fifth foul. (It needs to be noted that Jones was 0 for 8 on three-pointers before that attempt.) The Utah guard, who hit 9 of 10 free throws, made 2 of 3 foul shots and the momentum swung towards the Utes, who trailed 62-61 with 2:04 left.
McDaniels late-game miscues overshadowed his 14 points, five rebounds and two blocks.
But the larger question is why does McDaniels have four technicals this season?
Again, Hopkins doesn’t have a good answer.
“I don’t think there’s anything going on,” he said. “I just don’t know why the hell that play is made. I don’t know. I don’t know if it’s a game play. He’s the nicest guy in the league. I don’t get it. I don’t get it. But you just can’t make that play.”
He may be the nicest kid in the league. Watching him I have doubts about that...maybe what went on with his brother broke him, I have no idea. But, what I don't doubt is that he is extremely lacking upstairs when it comes to basketball.

Seriously, am I wrong? If this shit is what occured after a Romar lead team opened the season with a neutral floor win over a team that is now #1 in the Country, wouldn't we all be calling him out on the carpet for having zero control over this team and for not being able to win without the other coach's guys?

By the way, Utah took 14 more shots and 18 more free throws than the Huskies....and it came down to one play. Maybe don't turn the ball over 17 times and give up 18 offensive rebounds!? All the dumb shit they do, and just about every game comes down to the fact that they can't rebound or dribble.

I'm not making any excuses for Hopkins. Check out the Duck thread. I think he was over-rated when they brought him here and there is a reason he was an assistant coach for 40 years beyond loyalty to a program. He has major deficiencies with managing his roster and getting his players to play smart, disciplined ball. He's looking like Romar all over again and that is a depressing thing to consider.

That is what I am starting to be scared of...only, Romar won with his guys. I think there were a couple of guys from the coach before, maybe Conroy? But the majority of the kids he took to Sweet 16s were his guys. I was incredibly annoyed with how shitty we were on offense, especially in the half court, but now we can't really even get out and run. Still have amazing athletes, but they can't turn offense into defense or run other teams off the floor.

Think back to that New Mexico St game in the second round when we trailed by something like 18 and won by about that much. Watching that game you saw New Mexico St try to run with us. Just before the big come back, every player they had was pulling at their shorts looking half dead. Our kids looked like they were just getting warmed up.

This squad can't do that, since they can't rebound defensively they can't beat you with defense, and since their only half court presence on offense is a post player that no one will throw the ball to, how do they win? Epic collapse. Man, that Baylor game was sure damn fun to watch. And since the last ten minutes of the Stanford game I haven't been able to watch them at all because I just can't stomach it. I did that towards the end of the Romar era. It wasn't fair to me or anyone around me to watch what this University called basketball. And in a few short weeks that is what this season has become.

I am sure Hop isn't on the hot seat, but I am not sure that he shouldn't be. Even just a week ago I would have laughed at that thought. But this is ridiculous. It's like watching a Pete Carroll coached team in reverse....this team blows late leads because they are stupid.

They went to the foul line a lot because your idiot players were fouling them every single possession with a lead!!!!!!!! Often 30-50 feet from the hoop!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With a lead!!!!!!!!!!

Hop is better than Romar. At the end Romar won two conference games with the #1 pick in the NBA draft. That's almost impossible to do. Hop took over a roster that wasn't as good, with lost blue-chip recruits, and took UW to the dance.

As for now? I don't know. This team can play with anyone for 55 minutes, but what they do in the last five minutes is just mind-boggling in its stupidity. Is that on the coach, or on the stupid players? Or both? Maybe Hop is following the same arc Chris Peterson did after taking the football program to the Final Four.

A few days ago, I learned something that explained quite a bit. A new coach at a D-1 needs to recruit the local kids, not necessarily get them, but recruit them. Hop had to recruit Daniels, even though everyone knows what a turd Daniels is. Daniels wanted to stay home so he took the Husky offer even though Hop really did not want him. That is a forgivable sin......

However the sin that Hop is paying huge for is the unpardonable sin of having a starter becoming academically ineligible. Seriously his 4th or 5th coach needs to be fired. That is that coaches job is to know the academics of all the players on the team and head off any potential problems. This was not a one and done guy, this was a guy who has been in the program for a year already. There might not be a more valuable player to his team than Green is to the Huskies in the NCAA. The coaching staff completely dropped the ball on this one.
