It's Crickets in here!

Post by Michael K. » Wed Dec 09, 2020 3:18 pm

I realize we are all fascinated by the giant success that is Seahawks football....puke. I am seriously so frustrated I may not watch on Sunday. As mad as Husky football can make me at times, maybe it is the tradition, maybe it's that it is kids playing the game, I just can never turn away. So, I guess I will be the resident Husky guy. We used to have some guys that reported lots of great content when it was the Times. I am hoping most of those guys made the journey over here, because the in depth stuff we got on recruiting alone from them was outstanding. Sure, we all had some back and forths over there...mostly me bashing every OC we ever had that wasn't hand held by Jeff Tedford, some posters telling us that Locker need to be sat for some guy named Fouch, or better yet, Browning and Gaskin needed to lose time to KJ and Coleman! BUT....needless to say, I am hoping for more content.

Most know that bullshit out of coaches mouths pisses me the Hell off. Well, Jimmy isn't off on the right foot with me. I pointed out in an earlier post how he seems to believe that stopping the run is Husky football. Well, it hasn't been, and what really annoys me about the local reporting is pointing out that they haven't stopped the run is one thing...how about pointing out the ridiculous 5 man front we play against power football teams like Colorado, Stanford, and just about every Bowl opponent we face. Look Jimmy, I love handing it to WSU as much as the next guy, but beating WSU shouldn't be the be all end all. Hell, the 2 and 4 record Jimmy's defense has against Oregon should be pointed to FAR more than his WSU record. How about his record in Bowl games against good competition? How about against a Stanford team that has for the most part been pretty down while he was here?

That being said, I found a new bone to pick with him. Here we go.

“There’s no question we want to get the ball in his hands as often as we can,” UW head coach Jimmy Lake said Monday. “But like I’ve mentioned in the past, as Dylan (Morris) goes through his progression and he’s covered and he’s not open, we’re not throwing it to him. We’re not going to force the ball somewhere where it’s not supposed to go. If he is on the read and he’s open, then we’re going to get the ball to him. It’s just very, very plain and simple.

“We would love for him to have the unbelievable production that he had in the two games prior. And in those two games the read was there, he was open and we threw the ball to him.”

That was Jimmy Lake after the second straight week we got our asses handed to us in the first half. Why was this question asked of him? Against Oregon State, Utah and Stanford — Otton has been targeted a grand total of three times, with two catches for nine yards, in the first half. Sorry, what!? If that was Tyler Lockett I would be calling for Pete's fucking head!

OK, so is it really on Dylan? Is Cade just not open? Guess what? Jimmy is full of shit. This from Mike Vorel, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite Seattle Times writers.....
But it’s not as very, very plain and simple as Otton not being open in the first half against Stanford. In fact, the junior tight end was only asked to run a route on seven of Morris’ 15 drop-backs in the first 30 minutes (46.7%) — being utilized more often in pass protection while Morris scanned for inexperienced wide receivers. The majority of Morris’ first-half targets went to true freshmen Rome Odunze (three targets) and Jalen McMillan (two targets), as well as redshirt sophomore tight end Devin Culp (two targets) — who entered the game with zero career catches.
Morris did miss Otten on what would have been an easy TD....but that pisses me off too. If he went in another direction for a 16 yard gain, that would tell me that he probably went to his #1 progression there. Just unlucky, but if you are only going to let the best weapon you have run routes on fewer than half the pass plays, maybe run some that have him as the first option?
But was the extra pass protection really needed to stifle a Stanford defense that ranks 10th in the Pac-12 in both sacks (5) and tackles for loss per game (4.5)?

In the second half, when UW scored three touchdowns and a field goal on its four total drives, Otton ran routes on 10 of 13 Morris drop-backs — and the Huskies’ pass offense dramatically improved.
Gee, what a shock, when the pass pass catching option ran routes our offense was more successful than when he was playing OT against one of the worst pass rushers in the Conference. How hard that must have been to figure out before halftime!
You know the old quote by Wayne Gretzky, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”?

You also miss 100% of the shots you can’t take, because no one passed you the puck.
Well said Mike! What is crazy is that this article only talks about the missed opportunities from not targeting Cade Otten. With two of our starting WRs out, we also didn't bother to target Ty Jones until late 3rd quarter!

https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/uw- ... is-season/

There is another article in the Times this week that talks about how Richard Newton, a guy in my opinion who is the most compete back we have...both size and speed. Pleasant might be the slowest Husky back to every play and has the vision of my 95 year old gramma, but he is big. McGrew seems to have good speed and vision, but the size of my 95 year old gramma. Newton? Has them both...yet has been suited up on the sidelines the last two games and not received one touch. Jimmy says "we are going to play the guys that are ready to play". Yep, looks to me every time Pleasant runs up the ass of the Guard in front of him that he is totally ready to play! If Newton had COVID? He wouldn't be on the sidelines...which is why the absence of Nakua, is so hard...he must have COVID. But Newton? The last time we saw him he was racing 55 yards for a TD against AZ. Did he get hurt in practice?

Jimmy also said what the entire fucking audience saw on Saturday. That was a bullshit holding call that erased Ty Jones' TD. I wonder how different the game is? Of course, Stanford held the ball for the rest of the game because not only could our Nickel Defense not stop the run, but it couldn't stop a 3rd and 11 and a 3rd and 10 conversion. Stanford had the ball like the last 8 minutes of the damn game! I doubt that changes if we tie it up. They just kick the game winning FG to further rub our noses in how much more physical they are on the Farm.

I had been quickly losing faith in Lake as the DC...and the lack of a run defense or any kind of an adjustment based on the team they were playing was a big reason why. I did think he was a great motivator and a real good recruiter. I figured if he got the Head job and Kwitkowski the DC? We would be good. Let's hope I was right...so far I see yet another OC that doesn't belong and the same damn soft ass defense getting its ass whooped every time they don't play the Air Raid. It is no surprise AZ couldn't move the ball on them for three quarters. My guess is if they would have lined up in double TE, even though they never practiced it all week? They would have punched us right straight in the Five Man Front mouth like everyone else does!

Jimmy probably had COVID shipped in so that he didn't have to go 2 and 5 against Oregon.

Softy go in a massive Twitter brawl a few days ago with a Duck guy that suggested the Huskies would fake Covid to avoid playing the Ducks and backing into the North title. Of course Softy was like, "How dare you!"

Welp here we are.

Duck fans have no fear of us, nor should they. Trust me, I said the same about the Cougars missing the AC.

Unfortunately our draft class is showing the lack of faith in Jimmy Lake. We lost dang near all of the top state guys to Ohio State
