Hey!!! Your favorite player just tied it up!
GO KRAKEN!
Crap, Vgs just scored….under review
So crazy right!!!!
I guess you can deflect pucks but there cannot be a direct kicking motion. So its a clean goal. Bummer
This ain't over yet....
I only stayed up for the first period and saw the two clean goals buy the Knights but just watched the highlights and saw a couple lucky slop goals and that last goal where he literally kicked it in was complete and utter bullshit. It would be like a soccer player spiking a ball into the net with his hand like a volleyball player and it counting and being called a hand ball. If they want to increase scoring that is a ridiculous way to do it.
Bad first impression. Great comeback though.
This first game should be viewed internally with satisfaction, considering the many challenges, not only of putting together a brand new team in a short time but also of the events of the last two days. Externally it should be used as motivation and a statement to the rest of the league, stating "We were robbed in Vegas, we'll get them in our rink."
Really, if you only lose on a controversial late goal to last season's top regular season team, in your first game together, on the road, battling Covid and all kinds of roster shuffles, that really counts as a (big) victory in my book.
The Kraken have 3 top-9 F plus ABB not playing yet and are still getting their feet underneath them, so there is so much to build on. Slight concern on the goaltending but glad each of the potential breakout players in Geekie, Donato, and McCann scored.
Now moving on to some analysis so they can work on what needs to be cleaned up. 3 of the goals against came from poor/lost passes out of the D (one each by Giordano, Larsson, and Dunn) and the first goal against was because our RW (Bastian?) did not get back to cover their LW spot on a 3 on 2, who had an open shot.
Better communications between D and F and knowing that those long stretch passes are less likely to work against a top team like Vegas could cut down on these type of giveaway goals. This only gets better over time. and trial.
On the other hand, I thought all of the Kraken goals were of the "good" variety, not ones that would be blamed on a defensive error by the Knights. That is very encouraging to score that way, at 5x5, portends good things the rest of the season.
For the next game, I think they need to make three changes. First, Driedger in net. Second, Soucy instead of Lauzon, putting Dunn with Larson and Oleksiak with Soucy. Third, Bastian only played 6 minutes, so not much confidence from Hakstol. Would like to see how ABB does in that spot.
Jarnkrok should be back after two more games, likely moving Appleton into this 4RW spot, so an ABB audition would be appropriate before players have to be sent to waivers as the three missing players return. Looking forward to Thursday.
