If they gave her the award due to her athletic accomplishments, that would be fine, she had a hell of a year and led her team to the ultimate prize in her sport. But no, they've got to celebrate her gayness and give her a shoulder ride off the field because she took on the President Of The United States in a petulant brain-dead Twitter battle. If she crapped in her hand and threw it on the White House lawn as Trump stood on the porch and shook his fist they'd probably give her the Sportsperson Of The Decade Award.
Up next will be the Arthur Ashe Courage Award on the ESPYs, following in the footsteps of other great men/women of courage like Bruclyn Jenner. If Rapinoe can kill someone on the highway between now and the date of the award ceremony she'll have it in the bag.

Katlyn Jenner won a similar award not too long ago. It seemed like a marketing ploy. Seems like even Darren reposting this kind of indicates that the ploy works. If it was just a dominant athlete, nobody pays attention. Throw politics and controversy into the mix, and now you've got people's attention. It's a hustle for clicks. Of course there's tons of messaging in the media, but they're also feeding us what we're looking for. This is the type of stuff people click on.

for anyone into podcasts, I strongly urge you to listen to Joe Rogan's (The Joe Rogan Experience) episode with Matt Taibbi from Rolling Stone - long in depth convo about the horrid state of the media. Taibbi seems to lean a little left but his ideas are mostly centered and grounded. An incredibly enlightening listen - people in the media know how f'd up they are. At least some self awareness. Full on admission they are selling and monetizing hate and divisiveness - because the 'media' is running on fumes as far as relevancy. Super interesting convo they had.
