Dodgers batted Negron fifth the other day, he seems to think they are smarter than the Mariners

“Seattle’s kind of up and coming on the analytical side of stuff,” he said. “I was only there for just the year and September (of last year). As soon as I got traded over here, they’re just on top of everything. All the little things, all the analytical stuff, just feeding me information – I’m picking and choosing stuff that gets thrown at me. They’re definitely ahead of the curve here in L.A.”

This is so wrong.

Rickey Hendersons career OPS was .820. 16 consecutive seasons with an OPS over .775 plus more late in his career.

Ichiro had 8 seasons with an OPS over .775.

I'll be just fine with that with their speed.

If they were picking up prime Rickey Hendersons or Ichiros we wouldnt be having this conversation. They're trying to stash .650 or .700 OPS's in the corner outfield and that will NEVER work.
I didn't say that Ricky was devoid of power but it was his speed that put him in the HOF, and its going to be the same with Ichiro, .820 and .775 OPS are pretty mediocre for corner outfielders, OPS is not the only thing to judge a player with, even corner outfielders
If he had no speed he wouldn't be in the HOF but you can't steal 1B. Billy Hamilton who is faster than Rickey was won't be sniffing a AS game let alone the HOF.
and that speaks to his OBP, lifetime .401 while hitting .279

Yep, Rickey's patience drove me more crazy than his steals and was more debilitating to other teams imo.

I assumed our guys were on top of the analytical side, this is more than just a bit disappointing.

"Up and coming" four years after the current regime took over. Brutal.

In other news Negron went 0-4 with two Ks so maybe he needs to be on a team that's even more advanced.

yeah, he was the last guy in the world you wanted on base and all they would do was walk him, had to drive pitchers nuts

you were trying to pitch around those other guys...
Barry Bonds holds the record for most career walks drawn with 2,558. Rickey Henderson (2,190), Babe Ruth (2,062), and Ted Williams (2,021) are the only other players to draw more than 2,000 walks in their careers
