One thing that I don't think anyone will argue with is that it will be and interesting off season.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 7:07 pmHey, there are 5 teams worsee defensively! 4th in overall WAR. Not bad. Question is, do you trade one of them while value is high, or is value not high enough to make it worth it.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 6:55 pmSpeaking of our raking catchers. Re: Seager
If they don't have Narvaez on a strict training regimen he looks like he's about 15 pounds from being very ineffective at catcher and his bat is another that would be a negative at DH, so why waste time on him there.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 7:36 pmOne thing that I don't think anyone will argue with is that it will be and interesting off season.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 7:07 pmHey, there are 5 teams worsee defensively! 4th in overall WAR. I would have traded him this past deadline. Shannon Drayer said I was crazy, but I dont know that his value goes up at all from here.

Hey dt, that fWAR/600 thing, I've never seen that on fangraphs before, do you remember the discussions a couple years ago when I brought up how WAR shows cumulative but WAR/600 would show their performance relative to other players, i.e. the rate at which they accumulate WAR when they're on the field?
I even made a list showing who was valued where..
Re: Seager
I remember it well. Its similar to UZR 150. As long as you are projecting a guy with 10 good games, its very useful.bpj wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2019 7:56 am

Re: Seager
Here is what a Seager trade might look like this off season in terms of salary.
We owe him $38MM + a buyout between $0-$3MM. Let's just call it $40MM
The acquiring team would owe him $38MM for 2020-21 + $15MM fully vested poison pill so $53MM.
We send them $20MM and Seager for an ok prospect or two. We save $20MM and they get Seager for 3 x $11MM.

Re: Seager
Probably a reasonable trade, but I don't know if a team is going to trust this turnaround enough to invest 33 million and a prospect. Plus, who does that leave at 3B? I definitely don't want it to be Healy. Id be surprised to see a trade still at this point.D-train wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 3:10 pmHere is what a Seager trade might look like this off season in terms of salary.

Re: Seager
He would definitely need to finish the season with ~.800 OPS and 3+ WAR. You can adjust the money and prospect(s) accordingly. My point was that he is no longer untradable.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 3:35 pmProbably a reasonable trade, but I don't know if a team is going to trust this turnaround enough to invest 33 million and a prospect. Re: Seager
The question is, would the value they get from a trade be worth it. They may want to keep him and try to win games the next 2 years. There isn't anyone in the system right now that brings close to the value he potentially brings at 3B.

Re: Seager
If we want to use the early 70s Orioles as a template to build a dynasty with..Seager gives us our Brooks Robinson.
Now all we gotta come up with is a match for Frank Robinson, Boog Powell, Paul Blair, Jim Palmer, Mike Cuellar, Dave McNally, Pat Dobson, Don Buford, Davey Johnson.....
