Poll: most disappointing Mariners prospect
Re: Poll: most disappointing Mariners prospect
I saw Brien Taylor who grew up in a poverty stricken family on 60 minutes. They asked what he was going to do with his signing bonues and he said he was going to by his Mother a Double wide trailer but this one is even WIDER than a double wide. lolDonn Beach wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 3:19 pmAs a mariners fan you should get familiar with Cha Cha, chambers has the distinction of being considered one of the worse picks in MLB history

Re: Poll: most disappointing Mariners prospect
Montero tore up the minor leagues and he hit .328 in his September call up for the yanks before we traded for him. Smoak hit .290 with an .853 OPS splitting time between AA and AAA the year before we traded for him. Ackley as the #2 overall pick takes the cake as the most disappointing prospect. All three of those guys were every bit as legit of a prospect as Kelenic. This was all going on about the same time that Hultzen Walker and Paxton were known as the big 3. We thought we were set up for a bright future and we didn't get a star out of any of them. This is why I can never get too excited about prospects anymore.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 2:22 pmThe main frustration with White of course being the money he's getting paid. Montero was touted as the next great Yankee slugger or some such nonsense that only seems to work on Mariner GMs. And Smoak was highly regarded in the Rangers organization, why i don't know.

I think it's in terms of being a number one overall pick, played 56 total games I believe as opposed to none. A number one overall that played 56 games, pretty incredible really, though the mariners have had a number of questionable picks

It wasn't just Mariner GMs, at one point he was concidered the number 3 prospect in baseball. In terms of it being the modern era of scouting and how bad he turned out to be, think I might give it to himCaptain 97 wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 3:26 pmMontero tore up the minor leagues and he hit .328 in his September call up for the yanks before we traded for him. Now that I think about it there was literally zero technology back then vs. today. I mean scouts had to use pencils, notebooks, pay phones and paper maps to find high school and college fields so I am more likely to give those guys a pass.

I would never give JK the aplomb of making it to the majors, in my opinion he was given it based upon circumstances.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 3:28 pm

Yeah I was thinking about that. Hit .253 in AA and have 6 good games in AAA and then he is in.desbcoach wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 4:40 pmI would never give JK the aplomb of making it to the majors, in my opinion he was given it based upon circumstances.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 3:28 pm

Chambers had over 2000 PAs including hitting .331/973 in 100 games in AAA before getting the call.

It was ridiculous that they were saying that it was service time manipulation. He had less than 100 AB in AA ball, and had missed an entire season since then. Mather was dumb for how he said what he said, but it was mostly the mobs going way overboard trying to take way too much out of what he said.D-train wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 4:47 pmYeah I was thinking about that. The Mariner Twitter mob have nothing on the villagers in the Frankenstein movie. They went after Souza because he agreed with a guy that questioned the wisdom of teaching sex ed to 5 year olds like he was Satan.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 5:27 pmIt was ridiculous that they were saying that it was service time manipulation.
