So Toronto is looking at Nimmo after trading Hernandez. Seems they are pretty comparable as hitters (although Nimmo more OBP with Hernandez more SLG) nimmo the better fielder. Not a bad deal for them if they get Swanson, then get a better fit as a lefty in Nimmo.
I mean sure.

But there's also the commitment in signing a 30 year old COF w. slim power to upwards of $20+ million per year until his age 35-36 season. Especially one that has multiple, injury plagued seasons.

Well we still need another COF so...
Unfortunate reality of trading for Teoscar is the $14.5 million price tag that comes with him. I doubt very much that they'd be willing to invest the $20 or so million per year for Nimmo after making this trade.

I think they go the trade route for another OF... they sign one of the F/A pitchers to finish their rotation... Senga being the big fish for a cheaper price.

Trades are still very much on the horizon.

2B: Brandon Lowe? Ketel Marte?

OF: Tyler O'neill? Bryan Reynolds?

The M's are clearly set on circumventing the cost of getting a significant player in f/a by trading for players with short control who they can extend. If the M's signed Hernandez in F/A we'd all be thrilled... and I don't necessarily hate this strategy so long as it yields really good players. They seem to really have liked the Astros model.
I was pushing for trade on the horizon because when I did the all FA type of plans I was pushing 200 Million and I doubt JD wants to be that high. So I thought 1 or2 needs has to come from trades. But Teoscar is a 15M dollar one year guy. I like the deal. We get a 130-ish OPS+ RF that is pretty athletic. He has been a 3 or 4 WAR guy the last 3 years.

One nice upgrade so far. Swanson was definetly in our top 8 arms in the pen. And I never was high on Macko.
Swanson was 1st by both ERA and FIP and 2nd in WAR.

The $14.5 price tag can be offset some by trading Winker ($8.25)

2B: Brandon Lowe seems like a carbon copy of Adam Frazier
OF: Tyler O'Neill? Seems like hes very similar to the 2022 version of Jesse Winker

I wouldn't be too enthused if those were the chosen moves.
Adam Frazier has hit 43 HRs in his 7 year career. Lowe hit 39 HRs in 2021.

Nope you're right, I shouldn't comment when I'm tired, I was looking at only 2022 stats.

Teo has started 172 games in LF but only 3 this season. He is Mitch's replacement imo. But could play LF if we sign Nimmo.
Yoshida to left field will solve it

I think NOT extending Teoscar is the right move. 2023 will be his age 30 season and he'll presumably want an extension of 5 years or more and the risk on that is significant that years 3, 4, and 5 will be bad money.

I like that we're getting his free agent year and can offer him the QO next fall, which should net us an additional draft pick. Let's hope we get a career year from him that elevates him to the top tier of available free agents in 2024.

Still can't believe they added one of the best bats available on the market.

Hollander doing a great job so far.

I would still fill the following holes-

2B
LF
DH
SP5

Wong/Tanaka/Haniger seems about perfect from where I'm sitting.

Then they can take their pick between Rodon or Senga for the open spot in the rotation.

Lewis and Kelenic can be injury replacements.

So many ways they can still improve the team, and already checked corner outfielder with power off the list. Great start.

Love the idea of upgrading that SP5 spot if the reports are true that they're interested in Senga. Why wouldn't you upgrade at this point, they've been sitting on their cash like Uncle Scrooge McDuck the last few years. Time to make the fans excited, and back it up for once.

100% great moves since Hollander took over. Let's hope he locks his office door and doesn't let Jerry in! lol

I'm a bit surprised that Macko was the prospect in this trade just because it seems like Toronto would have wanted someone like Taylor Dollard or Bryce Miller. I wonder if those were the guys they wanted and Seattle simply said no, or if Macko was their guy all along. I'm not down on Macko exactly, but he's been injured a lot and it's hard to develop when you can't stay on the field. I'm also a bit surprised they didn't pry an additional mid-level prospect out of the M's, someone like Spencer Packard, Kaden Polcovich, Zach Deloach, or a pitcher from the arm pile.

The system is really getting depleted though, so that's something to watch. Most of the players that are left, especially at the top tier, are guys the Mariners should want to keep, several of which could take major leaps next season, which is pretty exciting.
