Brandon Nimmo: .800 OPS / 134 wRC+ / 4.5 WAR
Bryan Reynolds: .806 OPS / 125 wRC+ / 2.9 WAR
Jarred Kelenic: .534 OPS / 55 wRC+ / -.1 WAR

Logan Gilbert: 3.20 ERA / 3.2 WAR
Jose Quintana: 2.93 ERA / 4.0 WAR

Nimmo signed for 6yrs/$182M
Quintana signed for 2yrs/$26M

It's becoming pretty clear what the Mariners need to be doing. Trading from their pitching depth for bats, and signing pitching.
I'd be ok with trading Gilbert so long as we got Senga. But it'd hurt a helluva lot more than the Castillo deal.

In isolation, I guess it would hurt. I'm not overly attached, his production was pretty replaceable. Jose Quintana was better in 2022 and got 2 years at $13M per.

If Logan's being replaced with a good free agent and you're adding a premier offensive player on top of it, it seems like a no-brainer because a good pitcher plus a good hitter is better than just a good pitcher every day of the week.

For all we know Gilbert, Kirby and Cal could hire Scott Boras by 2025 and all the talk about extending them is a moot point anyways.

The Mariners could have just spent 8 years and $162M in free agency I guess.

But if they're not going to do that they need to be open to upgrading the lineup in a different way.

Meanwhile starting pitching is out there for the taking (assuming bats aren't in a rush to sign here).

The ONLY untouchables on this team for me are JRod, Kirby, and Raleigh. And even then, I might move Cal for the right price.

1.CF-JRod
2.LF-Reynolds
3.RF-Hernández
4.1B-France
5.3B-Suárez
6.C-Raleigh
7.DH-JD Martinez
8.2B-Wong
9.SS-Crawford

Ace-Kirby
P-Castillo
P-Ray
P-Senga
P-Felxen/Gonzales/Hancock/Dollard/Brash/Miller

Fuck I'd give up a position player before a pitcher. Like I've said keep them talking. Not like whoever they acquire is gonna re-up with them anyway. As far as we know Rodon still in play as is Senga. Frankly I'll take both but either will do. Was losing a high end prospect to Cincy hard, definitely. Would it sting just as bad going to Pittsburgh, yes.

Mariners pitching gave up the 7th lowest amount of runs in 2022.

Mariners hitting was ranked 18th in runs scored in 2022.

Obviously Gilbert was a part of the success but we need offense and have 11 starting pitchers and an opportunity to add more in free agency.

Doesn't really matter to me whether it's Reynolds or a free agent LF and/or DH, but one way or another they need to add offense so they're not counting on bums like Kelenic again.

And the free agent options that represent an upgrade are running low. Especially if Kelenic represents 70% of the at bats against RHP in a platoon.

I'd be willing to give up Gilbert for Reynolds, but I'm not doing it for Kirby. I think he's a potential Cy Young winner someday. There were times last season when I felt Kirby was our best starter..... in his ROOKIE year!

Agreed. I'd trade Castillo before I traded Kirby.

Wil Myers + either Michael Brantley or JD Martinez represent the best offensive upgrades at this point besides trading for Bryan Reynolds.

Add Brantley and Myers to the lineup and it looks much better than one that currently includes Kelenic in LF and Moore or Murphy at DH.
What would you trade for Reynolds that would equal his value? Just curious. You've come up with decent trade packages before. I can't find anything on MLB Trade Values that makes any sense.
I would trade Gilbert or Kirby for him and sign a pitcher to replace them (Senga, probably).

Bats are clearly more expensive and we're 10+ deep on starting pitchers before even adding one-

1) Castillo
2) Ray
3) Gilbert
4) Kirby
5) Flexen
6) Marco
7) Brash
8) Hancock
9) Dollard
10) Miller
11) Woo
...

You guys can say, "You can't trade a future ace!" all you want, but we just watched Brandon freakin' Nimmo sign for 8/$162M and Castillo extended at $110M.
Guessing Castillo is have some Sellers remorse right now. He got barely more for 5 years than JV got for two years at age 40+.

Again, I like it if we acquire someone like a Blake Snell to the starting rotation.
Maybe there's a way to get both.

Well yeah, obviously you would do that deal. But I wonder if the M's would just because of the stink of steroids and their whole thing about being family friendly. And then you have the complete lack of maturity of the player to consider on top of all that.
