Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
I've posted on here before that I think Santander makes a lot of sense, or Austin Hays. But I think Hays is a bit younger and cheaper and therefore might fit Baltimore's rebuilding plans a little bit better. Santander will start getting expensive in 2023 though, so the Mariners might not like that very much. It's just hard to know what the considerations are with this front office. Both players seem like solid middle class MLB players to me, with Santander being the one more likely to pop for 2-3 prime career seasons and eventually sign a fairly lucrative free agent contract.
I'm thinking about this as I'm writing and while I think Reynolds is probably the better player, Santander isn't that far behind him and Baltimore could actually use Marco or Flexen in their rotation in 2023, so you could include one or both in that deal along with Hancock and other stuff.

Is Ohtani allowed to negotiate an extension? Seeing as how MLB teams were only allowed to pay him peanuts om his first contract?

Interesting on why teams were only allowed to pay him so much when originally trying to sway him. Why not just offer him an extension then?desbcoach wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 9:26 pmHe is a FA after season, so yeahSexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 9:19 pmIs Ohtani allowed to negotiate an extension? Yes, I believe so. He's as free to sign an extension as any other player. I believe the restriction on his contract had to do with the signing bonus. Since he was a younger player and had not spent a certain number of seasons (6 I think?) in NPB, his signing bonus had to come out of the same international bonus pool that teams use to sign kids from Latin America.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 9:19 pmIs Ohtani allowed to negotiate an extension? Per my earlier post from the Seattle Times, I wonder about Randy Arozoerna. Might he be a pretty close second to landing Reynolds? He’d have 4 years if team control - given that, and his offensive potential, would he be a good get?
Here’s a potential trade proposal:

If he had he wouldn't be getting $50M a season next season...Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 9:27 pmInteresting on why teams were only allowed to pay him so much when originally trying to sway him. I like it and he is a RH bat so fits that inane bill. That is a reasonable trade proposal and shows how absurd Morosi's suggestion was for BR.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 9:43 pmPer my earlier post from the Seattle Times, I wonder about Randy Arozoerna.
