Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
They both have contact issues, Adell has hit the ball harder, JK's defense is better. I'd stick with JK

I'd love to see a list like this of all of Dipotos good moves if any Dipoto supporters want to take a stab at it.bpj wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 12:28 amSometimes I forget why they stopped letting him spend money, then remember how he's allocated money previously...

From this group of players, over 6 years (covid pass for 2020), these players accumulated 6.2 WAR for a cost of $182.9M, good for a $/WAR cost of $29.5M
In a market where they estimate one WAR is worth ~$8M on the free agent market, Dipoto paid $29.5M/WAR for these bums.
And got a promotion.
The best deals I can think of were the Haniger and France deals.
But from what I see Ketel Marte and Taijuan Walker put up 16.9 WAR for the Dbacks and Haniger/Segura gave the Mariners 18.8 WAR for a net gain of 1.9 WAR.
The Nola deal has worked out better with France (5.9), Trammell (.5) and Munoz (1.9) compared to 2.2 WAR from Nola/Adams for a net gain of 6.1 WAR.
Together the two trades represent a gain of 8 WAR so far (over a 6 year period).
More if you account for trading Segura for Crawford. But then we'd have to factor in the opportunity cost that JP clogging SS has become when there have been historic classes of free agent shortstops the past two years.
He traded for Suarez!
And Winker...
Drafted 4 players in the last 7 years that are now MLB regulars... Congratulations.....
What else has Dipoto done that turned out well?
Traded off the Cano contract so the owners could pocket more cash? Great work..
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
On March 31, somebody should go out to Mariners Headquarters with about 3 bucks worth of change and some Gorilla Glue. Then glue down the quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies onto the sidewalk. Come back the next day and watch to see how many owners come out to try and pick up the change on the sidewalk. Not to imply they are cheap, but how many of them do you think will try and pick up the coins?

Yet more money for the owners to pocket while professing poverty!D-train wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 6:57 pmGreat news. More revenues for the M's.

Seth Brown would be a great fit if they weren't idiotically focused on a RH bat.

It's not idiotic if you're planning to platoon left field
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
It is idiotic to not be interested in him because you want to give PAs to three totally unproven Bats including the primary one which is one of the worst hitters in baseball history right now.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 1:29 amIt's not idiotic if you're planning to platoon left field

Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
But in terms of dealing with that situation platooning them makes the most sense so it's not idiotic to be looking for a right handed bat. What you want them to do is bring in another starter. To do that you first need to go back and change the plan, probably beginning with trading away JK
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
You could trade for Seth and have Sam/Seth platoon with JK as 4th OFer getting some PAs at DH and LF and RF when TEO DHs. More depth if JK flops again.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 2:51 amBut in terms of dealing with that situation platooning them makes the most sense so it's not idiotic to be looking for a right handed bat.
