I love me some Michael Penix Jr., but I'll take any of the 4 QB's over him any day of the week. Dropping down to 5 most likely ensures that we are out if the running for a DL if the draft board were to remain the same. It's a great time to draft a franchise QB!

I respect this opinion, but don't agree with it.Cascade Kid wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 8:11 pmI'd still say Geno is worth $30M x3 and maybe more now. Given Geno's solid finish and his projected FA value of $36M per, it could be a challenge to have him sign such an offer now after a full season of success and a playoff birth.
At this point the only thing that may matter is his 'ask' price and a team's 'bid' price, unless the Hawks can get things wrapped up now and Geno desires to enjoy his well-earned riches in the off season. I don't see any good reason to wait any longer in signing him. Let's get it done!
I suspect the stats tell a story of Geno being a legit starter that will get starter money from some team after this season,
but my eyes and general finger on the pulse of this team tells me he's a "stop gap" at best. Inconsistent. Prone to mental errors and choking.
And - he's 32 years old.
If Geno also believes he can get 30 million per for 3 years, the Seahawks should let him try on the open market.
Otherwise, if that doesn't happen, the Seahawks should be willing to pay him journeyman backup - all-around-good-guy contract
and keep the savings to sign impact players.

Re: Rumors about Geno extension
My opinion on this has changed so much I don't even know what to think. One month ago? I thought it was a no brainer that we either got him to sign an extension or Franchise Tag him. Since then? I've thought Geno has been mediocre to not very good. We won two of those games and are headed to the playoffs. Maybe we don't need to pay Geno to do just that again next year? If Anderson and Carter are off the board, maybe we do go QB? I just loved the possibility of having our QB be a game manager and upgrading everywhere else. But I don't know that we can pay Geno anymore. What worries me is he is now reminding me of Russ. Not as extreme, but Russ was looking like an MVP to start out 2020. Teams figured him out and he STILL hasn't recovered.

It's hard to say 'no' to Geno if no other desireable answers exist.

Re: Rumors about Geno extension
That's not just your thought - that is accurate. Yesterday was not a good game by Geno. He had flashes, like that dime to Lockett, but that first INT was just bad. The second one was at least partially on DK, but was also bad. The third one that was ruled dropped was on Geno, too.
I don't see the Russ issues with Geno. Different issues, yes, but Russ' issues were age and wanting to be a celebrity. Geno is not a celebrity, and isn't acting like one. He also seems, in NFL years anyway, actually younger than Russ. Did you see how fast he looked on that play he got creamed by Ramsey?? Those are some fresh legs... which Russ hasn't had for a couple years.Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 10:27 pmBut I don't know that we can pay Geno anymore. I agree about the part of not knowing if we can pay Geno, though. It's really a dilemma. SOME team is going to be willing to pay him a shit-ton of money, and maybe that money is too much to compete with. I believe Geno would prefer to stay here, but if there's a $10 million difference, what would YOU do? I've said before, I think $25 million is the point. Anything less is a bargain, anything much more is overpaying. 3 years, 75 million seems like a good deal for everybody. I have a feeling some team will pay him like $40M and we'll have another problem to solve. That would net us a nice compensatory pick at least.

In my opinion if you bring a young QB into this situation, you are setting them up for failure. The worst thing that they could do is spend the #5 pick on a QB and have him spend his cheap years floundering because there is nothing around him. He will wither flame out because of a lack of support or he will start to find his footing right about the time that he is due an extension. They need to bring Geno back one way or another. I would prefer a franchise tag so you aren't committed long term. Use this years picks to build a killer D and then get your QB next year so that a young QB can come into a situation where he is not carrying the load.

Yeah, the Russ comparison was not the best probably. What I meant was he was looking like a world beater...then got exposed a bit and has looked pretty bad ever since. It was a big reason I was OK moving on from Russ. I really did think the league had figured him out and he wasn't able to adjust. Maybe that isn't the case here, but very similar stories. A guy looks like he is Superman, until he doesn't, and then never gets it back.SeattleAddict wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 10:43 pm

I don't know what my opinion here is, and it's hard, because we all know what my opinion of Geno was before. I had ZERO inclination he would have this type of a year, even with the slow finish.

I felt that way too. But have read theories that the Franchise Tag doesn't leave enough money for us to build around him. I don't pretend to know the cap, so I am not equipped to agree or disagree with that.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 10:54 pmI would prefer a franchise tag so you aren't committed long term. They don't need any money to build around him. They have 4 picks in the top 53 and they can build around him with that. Give him the tag and Let the 2022 and 2023 draft classes develop next year with Geno at the helm. Then when he walks in 2024 you can use his money to finish off whatever holes are left so that your rookie qb is walking into an ideal situation.Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 11:26 pmI felt that way too. I don't disagree. It was originally why I thought tagging made sense. Just saying I am coming around to other ideas the more and more I watch Geno revert back to Geno.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 11:49 pm
