that's EXACTLY what Geno is. Which is why they Seahawks have re-signed him 15 times, why he had such a good season, and why they'll sign him again.

But if they don't sign him (which I can only imagine if he demands superstar money), then any move they made would be for a conservative vet, then draft a hotshot rookie.

You know damn well Geno's not the future. If they could some how swindle a team into coughing up their 2024 1st then by all means go for it which is why I'm now on the trade back wagon. Some team will get desperate they always do. So much Demand, not nearly enough supply.

If by "future" you mean the next 10 years, then you're right. But could he very well be the next 3-4 years? I think yes.

I'm all for drafting a QB - I think that is a certainty - but I don't want to waste a top-5 pick when what this team needs is a consistent, veteran leader. About 90% of rookie QBs suck year one, and about 70% suck period. That's a HUGE risk to take at #5, unless you are desperate. Besides, there are only two QBs that deserve first round attention, and both of them would be ruined behind this O-line and supported by this defense.

So, bolster the middle of the defense and O-Line first, then draft a QB to develop somewhere rounds 3-5.

The deal would include a $42 million signing bonus, along with base salaries of $2 million guaranteed in 2023, $13 million in 2024 ($6 million of that is guaranteed against injury at signing and becomes fully guaranteed six days after the 2024 Super Bowl) and $26 million in 2025. And there is a $5 million roster bonus due on the fifth day of the 2025 league year and $2 million in per-game roster bonuses that season. Smith can stay with a team that has a promising young core, plenty of offensive assets and an offensive system in which he played by far his best football.

Really don't think football teams are terribly concerned with planning 10 years into the future. If you have a QB you think could be effective for the next 4-5 years you're gonna pass on them in hopes of finding one that could be for 10 years? I think the bird in the hand theory would apply

I might pay Geno $40 million, if it's for two years. Otherwise, it's overpaying him for ONE year of past service. Sorry, he just doesn't have the track record and $20 million is $3 million more than what he has taken home over his entire career. Throw in some incentives, but I still wouldn't go much higher. No disrespect, but where is the track record?

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is set to be a free agent this offseason.

Everyone wants to be the Kansas City Chiefs. Given that the Chiefs have been to five straight conference championships and three of the last four Super Bowls, it’s not hard to figure out why.

The Seattle Seahawks may be a couple steps away from being the Chiefs, but Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer argued that with Geno Smith and their quarterback plans, the Seahawks could emulate the Chiefs in one way this offseason.

“The template for Geno with the Seahawks, as I see it, could very well be Alex Smith in Kansas City,” Breer wrote. “You pay Smith well. He’ll give you a great chance to compete and contend and build the roster up around him.

Seems pretty obvious. Almost certain that's what Schneider and Carroll are planning. Unless Geno chooses to test free agency.

That is what I am advocating. 3 or 4 year deal gets him paid, with ability to stretch out the cap impact in case he bombs and locks him in if he plays well. In the meantime, look for that QB-of-the-future. It really seems like a no-brainer to me.

I dunno who Geno's agent is, I wonder what they're telling him he's worth. It's looking like $32 million is the over/under right now. I was thinking 25, but seems the number is drifting upwards in the past month or two.

Notice that all the big talk about Geno is how much the Seahawks are going to pay him and nothing on what other teams are likely chomping at the bit to fork over the big cash for his QB services...
