I would call this a pretty bad trade because you're giving up the only player that really matters in Bryce Miller. Those guys on the SF side are, at best, average MLB players and probably not that good. JD Davis is a 30 year-old fringe guy probably having his best season, Cobb is a 35 year-old 4th starter, and Wade is a late bloomer. Of the three, Wade has the most upside and might be worth trading for, but why would you give up a prize like Bryce Miller?Pharmabro wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 5:45 amI saw this trade from Locked on
Which is not as crazy as 1st glance:
M’s trade #2 Miller 23M, TT former top 100, Dollard #9, and someone U have never heard (Josh Hood)of for:
SP ALex Cobb 16.7M 9M for 23 19M team opt for 2024 142 ERA+ In 2023 but a 107 career.
3B/1B/OF JD Davis (12.3M). 2023 135 OPS+, 119 Career free agent 2025 made 4+M this year and expect a modest salary in his walk year
Wade 1B/OF (0.7M) trade calc 144 OPS+ 2023 113 career ( He was a 103 OPS+ before this year. ) 2.5 controlled years
So a couple of decent vets have up years on reasonable 1.5 years of control and seemingly a possible mirage in Wade.
According to trade calc the Giants are giving up 29.7 M in value and the M’s 31.9M
A number of these hot starters return to norms immediately after getting traded. Josh bell was a 159s OPS+ with Nats in Padre land he was a 74..
Frazier was a 126 in Pit and an 86 in SD.
JD said that they have had some conversations and stuff in the Babe Ruth would not fix us interview. Even if you added 15 to 20 Mil as the value on the SF side I could see an easy add if you believed that Wade could maintain 80% of his performance for example.

Re: The slightly too early trade deadline thread
I do find it interesting that a good chunk of M's fans are pretty set on moving on from the lone player who has had a very consistent bat in the constant shitheap that is the M's offense. Especially considering what we've thrown out there at 1B since Sexson.
France is 7th in WRC+ in MLB at 1B since the M's acquired him.
To me France has an Edgar-like trajectory. Edgar sort of sat around that .800 OPS number for the first 4-5 years of his career and then exploded. I could easily see France turn into a .300/.380/.500 player who avg's 20-30 bombs a season as he matures in his career.

We're not allowed a DH.
We had the greatest DH of all time for nearly 2 decades so we are now punished by the musical chairs rendition of Jerry Dipoto's twisted nightmares.
Cooper Hummel is our fate.

Per this article, there are lots of infielders the Cards might want to trade not named Paul Goldschmidt.
Cards need pitching and we need offense from our infield. Surely we can work out a deal here?!

IMHO, the wrong Wong was traded. Still, Kean is off to the White Sox and Jose Rodriguez is off the IL. Small moves.

Do any of you really believe we will ADD an impact player? Specifically a bat? I don't.

Nope he already said Babe Ruth in his prime won't help and I don't think anyone better than that will be available....Michael K. wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 2:38 pmDo any of you really believe we will ADD an impact player? Specifically a bat? I don't.
