2000 - M's traded for OF Al Martin from San Diego. Prior .838 OPS which fell to .678 OPS. Followed up w. a .712 OPS in 2001 over 100 games.
M's Traded for C Chris Widger from Montreal. Prior .752 OPS fell to .530 over 10 games.
2001 - No deadline trades.
2002 - M's traded for IF Jose Offerman from Boston. Low-tier bat that played more of a utility role, only 27 second half games for M's... middle .600's OPS for both BOS and the M's.
2003 - M's traded for IF Rey Sanchez from NYM. Low-tier bat that played a utility role, somehow put up some of his better late-career stats w. a .655 OPS which is hilarious.
2004 - No deadline trades. M's traded Ben Davis and Freddy Garcia for prospects in June (included Jeremy Reed) but not really a deadline deal.
2005 - M's traded for C Yorvit Torrealba (and a pitching prospect) from San Fran. Was more of a trade for SF to acquire Randy Winn at the deadline and Torrealba served as a throw-in piece for the deal as he was a free agent in 2006 and served as a backup catcher. Modest stats at a mid .600's OPS.
2006 - M's traded for 1B Eduardo Perez from Cleveland. Perez fell off a cliff after posting a .979 first-half OPS to a .545 OPS over 43 games. He then promptly retired. The worst part about this trade is that it's the infamous Asdrubal Cabrera deal. Cabrera turned into a 30-WAR middle infielder with an above average bat over the better part of 13 years
The M's also traded Sin Shoo Choo for pitcher Shawn Nottingham at this deadline
2007 - One trade for a pitcher and another minor deal, but nothing significant along the bat front.
2008 - M's traded for OF/1B Craig Wilson from the Pirates. Wilson was actually a pretty solid hitter in the early part of his career, but it appears injuries took their toll as he never played for PIT or Seattle in '08 and then retired.
M's also traded for Arthur Rhodes again.
2009 - M's traded for IF Yunieski Betancourt from the Royals. The M's made the trade after losing SS Ronny Cedeno to injury. He was a terrible defender and a below-average bat despite putting up high batting average numbers. He ended up w. -2.4 fWAR for his career.
M's traded for IF Jack Hannahan from Oakland. Hannahan was a mediocre player for the A's and continued to be mediocre for the M's... posting a .656 OPS over 51 games prior to becoming a free agent in '10.
M's traded for SS Jack Wilson (and pitcher Ian Snell) from Pittsburg. In the trade, the M's offloaded previously acquired Cedeno and former first round bust Jeff Clement (among other prospects) which is what this trade is famous for. Wilson was a promising, veteran SS who hung upwards of 20 fWAR for the Pirates over 7 seasons despite limitations with his bat. He was horrible with the Mariners posting 2x sub-.600 OPS seasons before heading to Atlanta where he retired soon after.
M's also had 2x trades for pitchers at the deadline, notably the trade for Jarrod Washburn.
2010 - M's traded for 1B Justin Smoak (and prospects) from Texas. The trade was a sell for the M's as they were terrible in '10... it sent star pitcher Cliff Lee and reliever Mark Lowe in exchange for Smoak, 2 pitching prospects, and an infield prospect. The pitchers never materialized into anything special and the IF never made the big leagues. Smoak was a top prospect who floundered as a Mariner. He had some pop but struggled to hit for average and goes down as one of the bigger busts in M's history.
Russell Branyan was acquired in June from the Indians... and he was a stud for the M's, but it wasn't really a deadline deal.
2011 - M's traded for OF Casper Wells (and pitcher Charlie Furbush) from Detroit. Wells was a decent prospect who had hung an OPS over .800 between his rookie and sophomore campaigns. In the second half with the M's those numbers dipped to a .742 OPS and then a .698 OPS in 2012. Wells was then shipped to Oakland and two other teams and his career was over after 2013. Another bust. The trade sent pitcher Doug Fister (and others) to Detroit where he helped them to a World Series appearance.
M's traded for OF Trayvon Robinson (and a pitching prospect) from Los Angeles and Boston in a 3-team deal. The trade is famous for the M's offloading another previously acquired, star arm Erik Bedard and former 1st round pick reliver Josh Fields to the Red Sox
2012 - M's traded for OF Eric Thames from Toronto. Thames put up modest numbers that were close to what he had put up in his first two seasons... a .695 OPS over 40 games. He then went on to play in Asia where he was a star and returned to MLB in 2017 where he hung an .877 OPS for the Brewers.
M's also traded superstar OF Ichiro Suzuki to the Yankees for 2x pitching prospects who never materialized. They also traded closer Brandon League for 2x prospects who never materialized.
2013 - No deadline trades. However, the Mariners traded Mike Morse at the waiver trade deadline to the Nationals for prospect Xavier Avery who never did anything. Morse was originally with the M's organization before being traded to Washington where he had 3x very good years. The M's required him and he promptly fell off a cliff in the '13 season.
2014 - M's traded for DH/1B Kendrys Morales from Minnesota. Morales had been solid hitter prior to the '14 season with the Angels, having hung multiple 120 OPS+ seasons. He was bad in '14 with the Twins and remained just as bad when the M's acquired him. He hit for just a .632 OPS and hit free agency the following season. In 2015, he hung a .847 OPS with the Royals and won a silver slugger... because why the hell not?
M's trade for OF Chris Denorfia from San Diego. Denorfia was bad for the Padres and worse for the Mariners. He hung a .573 OPS over 32 games.
M's traded for OF Austin Jackson from Detroit. The trade is famous for the M's sending another 1st round burnout, Nick Franklin, to the Rays in a 3-team deal. Jackson hung a modest .730 OPS before the '14 deadline with the Tigers and had already hung some pretty decent offensive years prior to heading to Seattle. Once in an M's uniform, Jackson plummeted to a .527 OPS over 54 games. In 2015 he posted just a .699 OPS and was traded to the White Sox.
2015 - This deadline, the M's sold former top-2, 1st round pick Dustin Ackley to the Yankees for 2x players who never materialized. They traded Mark Lowe again for 2x players who never materialized. They traded AJ Happ for you guessed it, a player who never materialized.
2016 - M's traded for DH Dan Vogelbach (and Pitcher Paul Blackburn) from Chicago. Vogelbach played in just 60ish games over the next 3 years for the M's following the trade. In 2019 he was the lone M's All Star after a monster first half. Sadly his stats fell off a cliff in the second half and he was traded to the Blue Jays in the 2020 season.
The M's traded terrible pitcher Joaquin Benoit to the Blue Jays for reliever Drew Storen and also traded another terrible signing, Wade Miley, to the Orioles for prospect Ariel Miranda. Odd trade deadline when you consider the M's were very much in the hunt.
2017 - M's traded for 1B Yonder Alonso from Oakland. Alonso had mashed for the A's to the tune of an .893 OPS and 22 homers in the first half of '17. He hit decently for the M's, a .793 OPS over 42 games, but never lived up to the first half standard and became a free agent the following year.
The M's also traded P Pablo Lopez (and prospects) for reliever David Phelps
2018 - M's traded for OF Cameron Maybin from the Miami. Maybin wasn't anything special with the Marlins, posting a .681 OPS over 99 games. He was worse with the M's, posting a .607 OPS over 30 games. Yikes.
This turned out to be one of the more disappointing deadlines in M's history as the M's were in contention but had already lost Robinson Cano for the year due to PED's. Instead of buying real pieces, Dipoto made a junk trade for Maybin and acquired 3x relievers who all pitched pretty poorly over the M's attempt at a playoff run.
2019 - M's traded for IF Kris Negron from Los Angeles. Meaningless trade for a team that wasn't contending. Negron did nothing as a Mariner of significance.
The M's traded Mike Leake to Arizona for utility prospect Jose Cabellero who is now doing some nice things for the M's. M's also traded Hunter Strickland and Roenis Elias to the Washington for 3x pitching prospect who never materialized.
2020 - M's traded for Ty France, Andres Munoz, Taylor Trammell and Luis Torrens from San Diego. While it wasn't a buying move for the M's... it serves as maybe the one trade the M's have made at a deadline in the past 2 decades where it appears they have added significant talent. While France has struggled in '23, his first few seasons with the M's were very solid. Munoz is one of the better relievers in baseball. Trammell and Torrens haven't amounted to much, the M's saying goodbye to Torrens following '22. Austin Nola and the 2x relievers the M's sent over have done little for San Diego.
At the same deadline, the M's also acquired Matt Brash from San Diego. He's on the path to being a star reliver in this league.
2021 - Another deadline where the M's were in contention and they failed to make any important splashes. In fact, they made one of the more unpopular trades in recent memory, sending star reliever Kendall Graveman to the hated Astros for Abraham Toro and Joe Smith. They traded for starting pitcher Tyler Anderson who was mediocre at best. They also acquired Diego Castillo from the Rays for JT Chargois and prospect Austin Shenton, another unpopular move. I'm not giving Abraham Toro the glory of bolding his name because I hate him so much.
2022 - M's traded for C Curt Casali (and P Matt Boyd) from San Francisco. Underwhelming trade for a contending team, Casali was awful with the M's, posting just a .525 OPS over 16 games when he had hung a .696 OPS for SF prior to the trade.
M's also made a big splash trade, acquiring starting pitcher Luis Castillo from the Reds for 2x top-100 prospects (and more). Castillo is one of the top pitchers in the league and the impact for the Reds has yet to materialize.
