I still can't believe we got Pollock, La Stella and another year of Jarhead Kelenic after how the 2022 season went down.

Even one decent move and they're in the playoffs.

Buffoonery.
If we don't do "something" significant this offseason, then officially put me on the it's time to shit can Dipoto. However, I think that the problem goes much higher than that, all the way up to ownership. Until Stanton is rooted out like the money sucking cash grabber he is, then we will forever be in turmoil.

Anyone on this blog wanna take any bets that we never win a World Series under John Stanton?
Totally agree on Stanton but Jerry flushed $33M on straight trash.
Yes, he was being cheap, and investing in bullshit pieces. Instead of allocating that towards 1 of the first 6 years for Marcus Semien!

All those guys are gone so now he has to try to fill multiple holes and the Rangers are set for 5 years.

Semien was #1 on my board. Regardless the years attached. I feel like we will always be outbid now with this current regime. Free Agency is so depressing.

Semien has made $51M his first two seasons and put up 13.1 WAR which equates to $104.8M so he already has put up $53.8 surplus production and their 1st ever WS title in 63 seasons. In the last year of his deal he is going to make $20M in 2028 at age 37. In 2028, he will be making less than dozens of relievers across MLB....I don't think he will be an Albatross causing the Rangers to be stuck in the mud regretting his massive overpay of a contract. Call me Crazy.

At least he helped them get a World Series out of it. I could easily stomach that albatross. They went from shit to WS in one season!

It's not an albatross if he puts up $175 mil worth of WAR and he's already put up $105 mil worth.

It isn't an Albatross. He will make a TOTAL $46M his last two seasons. Mets are paying Verlander and Scherzer $43M EACH to not pitch for them this season. We are paying Robbie Ray $44M to not pitch in 2023-24.

Even assuming the same $8M per war if he puts up something like:

2024: 5 WAR
2025: 4 WAR
2026: 3 WAR
2027: 2 WAR
2028: 1 WAR

That is another 13 WAR and $105M of value.

I'm not sure, but this may not be fully accurate. The Mets are on the hook for some or all of Verlander and Scherzer's salary because they traded them.

Robbie Ray is on the IL, and although contract terms will vary, my understanding is that most MLB franchises have their players covered by insurance policies. If they go on the IL, the insurance company pays the salary. To be sure, Robbie will be paid this season. But I don't think the M's are directly on the hook for his paychecks until he returns from the IL.

There was a big stink about this when Edwin Diaz got injured during the WBC and questions arose about whether the Mets would be on the hook for his salary. They were not.

He's signed to produce $175 mil worth of production. There's really no connection between that production and the annual payments on the contract, that's what fans seem to have a hard time understanding
