Best defensive game in how long? (S.F.)

Post by Hanjag » Wed Nov 13, 2019 8:18 am

Clowney looked like the high end of what we thought we were getting when we traded for him. He looked like a MVP - D.P.O.Y. difference maker.
LBs all made plays looked fast and were close to even more big plays a couple of interceptions were at had and bounced away.
Diggs looked to be in position more often than not. Reading and reacting which reminded me of E.T. ( Not on ET's level but much better than we have seen.
Corners. Pro<--- I think brought up how they were booth rated very well as individuals. Vs SF I saw some great plays ( Last offensive play for SF I really liked the head turn and absolute layout to deny a long reception from Shaq Griffen)= Standout.
All three levels played well in my estimation.

I would have to state best defensive game of the year. The niners ended with just over 300 yards but I remember early on it was like 100 something to 2 or some such (1st Q). 200 yards over 3 quarters to a legit team with a legit defense and running game.

What do you think.
How would you grade the D vs SF?

I give it a B because of pass defense in the secondary. More specifically how they .chose to defend the slants. I get the strategy. Tighter coverage and the DB is susceptible to pick plays. But just didn't care for it. 49ers converted way too many 1sts and a 2pt conversion running same play. D line was relentless. LBs dropped INT that could have sealed the game .

If Hawks can get generate that kind of pass rush rest of the way. They are going to be tough to beat.

B sounds good to me. Diggs and McDougal look fairly solid, Griffin is good, but our other corner is not a strength.
This defense could be pretty good at the end of the season, and then watch out. Rest of the season should be fun.

I was thinking the same thing...sure why not? Now he got cut for not being physical at all. Not sure what you mean there.

he got cut for lack of effort...not that i really know anything about him, but when he did feel like making an effort, I thought he was known for playing physically, thinking Pete likes that kind of player...

from a draft profile
Fearless in run support—he has absolutely no compunction about throwing his body around against bigger players and loves to mix it up.

all i know is his scouting report coming into the league was at or near the top of the DB class, a player who could supposedly excel at either safety or corner. for that to be true he must have had good size and physicality. no idea why he didnt pan out for TB, but wouldnt be the first DB to wash out there. i think they chose Mark Barron 6th overall, and shipped him off for peanuts rather than giving a second contract. seems like their secondary has been a black hole since the Tampa 2 days with Lynch and Barber.
