It's like he laid a trap to get the debate off topic that everyone fell into. By complaining about 54% it's like you have accepted the moves he makes is focused on that. That 54% is a successful team so he wins. I think it make more sense to complain about his moves not being focused on winning 54% than complaining about 54%
This 54% bullshit that Jerry offhandedly (mis)spoke has taken on a storm of controversy and backlash. Here's a stormy prediction by experts that may affect all of us. Some strong thoughts I wish we would hear from the Mariners, but alas, I fear for other teams growing better and the M's just washing out of existence this coming season.

This winter’s El Niño could be one of the strongest in 70 years. What does it mean for you?

Story by Alix Martichoux . 12/22/2023
(NEXSTAR) – The 2023-2024 El Niño is growing more likely to be one for the record books.

In an update released Thursday, the Climate Prediction Center said this winter’s El Niño was slightly favored to be “historically strong.” The national forecasters gave it about a 54% chance of being one of the five strongest since 1950.

Those odds are up from last month, when the Climate Prediction Center gave this year’s El Niño a 35% chance of being among the strongest ever, like the one we saw 2015-2016 or 1997-1998.

But a super-strong El Niño doesn’t necessarily mean super-strong impacts, like storms, flooding or heavy snow. “While stronger El Niño events increase the likelihood of El Niño-related climate anomalies, it does not imply expected impacts will emerge in all locations or be of strong intensity,” says the Climate Prediction Center.

I wish Jerry could find a way to get "odds up" for Seattle by finding some "impact" players that would excite us and boost our spirits. This offseason has been just a gray, bleak outlook and a total bummer.
Rocky Colavito is a Hall of Famer in my book!

54% isn't small, this is what I keep bringing up.. The issue as I see it isn't Dipoto thinking small by aiming at 54%. It's how are the moves he makes building the foundation of that team that could do it. Sustainability isn't just not spending money
54% is beyond it idiotic on every level imaginable with number one being thinking that fans should thank them for aspiring to such "lofty" heights.
4th in MLB in wins isn't lofty enough, okay.

What he's saying is be patient, I'm going to build one of the most successful franchises in baseball because that's what it would take to accomplish it. I really don't understand the hard part in grasping that

I am usually on the optimist side of the debate. But, even I can't muster up a whole lot of "Good vibes only!" as far as the direction this ownership group has taken.

They literally won 54% of their game THIS season and DID NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS in the most expanded playoff format in the history of MLB and we should be thankful for that approach. It beyond asinine to even come up with that nonsense let alone show your full ass to the world by stating it publicly.

Gone are the days when offseason MLB transactions would be lucky to be noted in agate type below a newspaper's basketball box scores.

Fans often waited until the opening of Spring Training to learn of their favorite team's updated roster.

Today the Hot Stove fuels a media frenzy. Websites and podcasts throw out rumors and proposals in hopes that frantic fans provide the clicks that raise advertising rates.

It's become a cottage industry.

With the internet, anyone has the medium to reach a mass audience without interference from editors and other gatekeepers. The content quality suffers as a result.

This poster misses the bygone days although he's as guilty as anyone for for providing those revenue-generating clicks.

Sort of a random question here: what is Hancock's status supposed to be going into spring training?

Healthy but I am sure they will slow play him and he might pitch about 7 innings in ST.
