Alternatively, the front office might be suggesting that player valuation should look beyond the stats we found on baseball cards as adolescents.D-train wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 3:35 amIt is like they are trying to punk us by signing guys with the most horrific stats they can possibly find......harmony wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 3:31 amHere come the lefty relievers on minor league contracts:

And they are the only ones that thought Sergio Romo, Luke Weaver and Dom Leone were good ideas when they had Riley OBrien in Tacoma.harmony wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 7:02 pmAlternatively, the front office might be suggesting that player valuation should look beyond the stats we found on baseball cards as adolescents.D-train wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 3:35 amIt is like they are trying to punk us by signing guys with the most horrific stats they can possibly find......harmony wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 3:31 amHere come the lefty relievers on minor league contracts:

I think they were put into unusual positions. They both have closer-level stuff, but you also have to have that closer mentality. It will be interesting to see if they get more comfortable in that position in ST.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 11:13 pmSo far, the M’s have acquired these relievers during the past few months:harmony wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 4:51 amFWIW a The Baseball Insider podcast just announced that the Mariners have signed righthander Cory Abbott:

Cole Phillips
Carlos Vargas
Tyson Miller
Cody Bolton
Cory Abbott
For every name, we can ask “Who?”, but the way Seattle finds decent relievers, I think the odds are good that one or two of these guys can prove useful in this year’s bullpen. This should make for good competition in Sprng Training. I’m still hoping they acquire someone who is proven as a closer. Last year it seemed to me like Brash and Munoz looked more like 7th-8th inning guys trying to adjust to being used in the 9th. Neither gave up too many HRs but they got into too many tough situations.

They don't really use a closer do they. Scott manages leverage situations
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League thread!
Been that way for several years. Surprising people still use that word.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 4:26 amThey don't really use a closer do they. Scott manages leverage situations

Kind of surprised Ford isn’t one of the catchers at the ongoing pitchers camp in Az.

Logan avoids arbitration and gets a nice raise and his new Brides shopping budget likely kicks up a notch. lol
