Here is a question. If Ford is so incredibly athletic why is there possibly a question whether or not he can stick at catcher??

I don't think there is, the question is would he be more valuable somewhere else. And I do believe that is an aspect of his value. That he can be projected to multiple positions.
It’s rather remarkable how much bat speed Ford generates with an incredibly quiet load considering the low placement of his hands in his pre-swing setup. His lack of a bat wrap is noticeable, but it’s akin to Edwin Encarnacion. Behind the plate, Ford is quick out of his crouch, and moves with smooth quick twitch motions. Ford is a fringy hitter with big, big power. Projects a 45 hitter with potential for 60 power at the next level.Might not be a catcher in big league ball as his athleticism and plus speed may be too good not to move to an outfield spot or third base long-term. That said, some scouts have said if you’ve got that kind of talent and athleticism behind the plate, why move him? He’s got a reasonable shot of being the rare prep catcher selected in the first round."

Well he isn't going to be a CF for obvious reasons and going from Catcher to COFer is a MASSIVE downgrade in value. Also he is fast for a catcher but he was on base over 200 times and was only 24 for 32 on SBs. Good but not great.

Clase was on base fewer times and was 79 for 94.

I don't think corner outfielder is what they are looking at, it's infield reps he's supposed to see in spring training

Sure third and second would be better but still nor good relative to catcher. He isn't going to be a SS. Also this notion that he is going to play a position that requires a lot of skill fielding 100+ mph exit velo ground balls well enough to play every day given he probably hasn't done it since little league is quite a Leap of Faith imo.

The question is getting him to the MLs. The reason to move him to 2nd would be to give him a faster track.

Faster than Zunino's 470 PAs? So it is quicker to teach him a new position that he has not played since Little league if EVER than having him refine his skills at a position he has been playing for the past decade given he has to hit better at the new position than the current position? Sometimes before you just parrot shit you read you might want to determine if it makes any sense first.

Zunino didn't have Cal Raleigh blocking him

Good point but he would have more value trading him than moving him off catcher. Let's see how it plays out. I haven't seen any reports or vid of him in the field and it has been over a week.

I don't know if he would, I'm saying an aspect to his value is projecting to more than one position
