the one thing DK can do consistently far better than anyone available is put the holy terror in the minds of opposing DCs for his deep threat, requiring special game planning every week. That rarity is what i'm hoping most in for a solid draft capital return.
It cracks me up that half of the people defending DK say that he is always open and Geno just doesn't get him the ball...then there are comments like this about how the DC is rolling coverage to him out of fear. Which is it? Which one of the built in excuses lead him to be 50th in catches, 35th in yards and 60th in TDs, despite being the scariest man on the field?
I realize this isn't just a Seattle fan issue, but when are we every going to hold anyone accountable for their own production? Hitters suck, it has to be the manager making the wrong batting order or the Hitting Coach sucks. WR doesn't put up numbers? It's the OC and QB's fault, despite the fact that the other guy put up All Pro numbers. O Line sucks for a decade? Fire the OC. It's constant here. DK was below average last year. That's on him!
DK has been the number one asset for a few seasons now. Any competent DC is literally going to scheme to stop the opposing offense's top asset. Are you suggesting different? Posting DK's stats as some measure of lack of production ignores that, and the fact that JSN's numbers skyrocketed - because Lockett's skills were diminishing and DK was the focus of the defense. You can't just post stats and ignore ALL context. You have to throw him the ball for him to catch it. If he's double covered or blanketed - you don't want your QB to throw that way - which Geno didn't - thus reducing him to 'only' almost 1000 yards - which is still pretty good.
I HATE when people cut and paste stats and ignore all context. JSN's production increase is the real story, not DK sucking or under producing - as well as Geno recognizing this and acting accordingly.
That's not in defense of metcalf -
just pointing out what should be obvious. I am fine moving on from him - his production can be replaced for much cheaper and the reality is this team isn't going anywhere anytime soon so it's best to gut the team, acquire more assets and draft capital and build for the future.
How did I ignore all context? So, in your opinion, Grubb and Geno hated DK so they decided to get the ball to JSN all the time, even though, in your eyes, DK is the far superior player? When you watched the game, did you see a guy that was far superior? He suffered from drops, he ran the wrong route, he ran lazy routes, he fumbled the football, he committed dumb penalties. Jesus, you can ignore stats, but how is it other Star WRs seem to figure out a way to get open? The excuse making is incredible. The guy is not a great route runner, not even a great WR or football player. He is a physical specimen that everyone fell in love with because he looks like Super Man. Problem is many times he plays like Clark Kent. He wasn't double covered all the time, many times he was open, and the ball went to where he was SUPPOSED to be. The result was a punt or worse, and INT. He had a bad year, and that isn't all on Geno or the OC or other DCs figuring out how to eliminate him. The same guys that couldn't do it to JJ, Chase, St Brown, CD or even JSN!
So, in your own words, JSN is the guy, but non of us should believe that means DK isn't the guy? JSN is a football player, a WR that runs great routes. DK is a track star that is built like a body builder, and was a feel good story, Pete took his shirt off, blah blah. DK has been loved and adored here ever since. The production hasn't matched the fan fare, IMO.
