King of Queens and The Office were the opposite of that. Who are you thinking of. I definitely think there have been slim pickings.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Thu Sep 11, 2025 6:03 pmSo many depressing and unengaging personalities this century in (comedy) television.

Shows like Friends that are geared towards "progressive" women where the male characters are inaffectual twerps or like the Office where they are inhibited unlikable losers or like Schitz Creek where the characters are uninteresting dullards.
Re: OT Best Sitcom Character of All Time
I go back many years, watching Jackie Gleason, Lucy, That Girl with Marlo Thomas, Dick VanDyke, Mary Tyler Moore and so many more.
Sanford & Son, Cheers, Fresh Prince of Belair, The Addams Family, The Munsters, Malcom in the Middle, That 70's Show, Get Smart, Big Bang Theory, and all of the ones you have previously mentioned have given me joy and laughter.
As far as characters, most shows had multiple characters that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Probably one of my faves was Mork & Mindy. Mork from Orc had me in stitches and when Robin Williams appeared as Mork on Happy Days, it was classic.
Wish I could go back, bridge timelines, and drop Mork into The Andy Griffith Show. The interactions between Mork, Barney Fife, Opie, Andy and Aunt Bea (and perhaps Gomer Pyle) might have changed the definition of gut-wrenching laughter.
Mork in Mayberry, I can only imagine.

Rocky Colavito is a Hall of Famer in my book!
