Criswell is kind of interesting. He doesn't throw hard but the Mariners must really like his command and secondaries. My guess is he starts the season in the rotation in Miller's spot and then Hancock is the #7 guy in the bullpen behind Vargas.

Miller is starting to seem more fragile to me. This latest issue is the oblique, which can take a long time to heal. I think it's likely he misses 4-6 weeks.
Maybe you are right about Criswell taking Miller's spot.

Miller is "starting" to seem fragile??? He only made 18 starts and pitched 90 innings last season..

Cole Young has pretty much locked up 2B going 2-3 today to get him to .250/1.007 after a slow start. Good for him. All the kids that thought Colt should be our OD SS looking like complete fools. Colt did just single but is now sitting at .207/.526. He is barely on the sidewalk let alone knocking on the door....
Brock Rodden & Cole Young just smashed back-to-back HR's (Rodden pinch-hitting for JP)(Young now 3-4 today) to take a 7-6 lead over the Rockies in the 7th. Old buddy Casey Lawrence (compromising pics of Dipoto???) gave up 3 runs in the top of the inning to Colorado).
It's Spring Training...........Go M's!?!

i was there. nice game until Lawrence came in. the Rockies just teed off on him. he was dogshit. and he didn't just give up 3 runs. he gave up 3 in the 7th, 3 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th. i kept thinking they'd seen enough, but damn, they really let him hang himself.
Dude really has to love to throw baseballs. Imagine subjecting yourself to that at almost age 40. It is like being a 70 yo mailman that doesn't want to retire despite a mandatory retirement age of 70 so the Post Office makes him deliver the mail on foot threw a neighborhood with a dozen wild pit bulls with a Raw Pork chop hanging out of each of his back pockets and a 5 lb rump roast in his mail bag....

All pitchers deal with injuries at certain points. It's the chain of two different injuries in quick succession that worries me. I wonder if the oblique is a compensating injury from trying to protect the elbow in some way.

Best surprise out of camp might be Hancock. .68 WHIP and 12 Ks in only 7 innings. Guessing he will be our new #5 with Criswell as next man up.

Ferrer finally had a decent outing albeit only .2 innings.
Yeah, Lawrence was last season, I was trying to think of who they added this season. Hey, believe I've figured out why I struggle with names. Aphantasia, affects 1-3 % of the population. The inability to create mental images. Its a weird thing to discover but it explains a number of things I've always struggled with.

You certainly keep up with the chatter around baseball, that's an interesting aspect you cover.

Here's something that involves Mayer who I don't know a thing about. Just thought it interesting in that it's something that dipoto has been at for awhile
Over the last two seasons, the Boston Red Sox have prioritized signing their young players to long-term contracts — officially showing growth from their mistakes with Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts. Ceddanne Rafaela, Brayan Bello, Kristian Campbell and Roman Anthony have all been signed to deals that buy out their arbitration years.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow told reporters he hoped to get more players signed this offseason (subscription required). With weeks until Opening Day, no additional Red Sox are locked down long-term, despite having a few candidates.

According to multiple sources, Boston hasn't approached either Connelly Early or Marcelo Mayer about a contract extension with the team. Both are promising young players, likely with long and prosperous careers ahead of them, but the Red Sox seem to be holding off on a commitment to either one

Lawrence is like a bad rash that just won't go away. He did do some nice fill-in duty last year, but I hope he doesn't make the roster (even the 40-man).
Rocky Colavito is a Hall of Famer in my book!
