And since Donovan Ks so rarely maybe he isn't impacted as much as most hitters....

That works if we think he's immune to what causes the extra K's in T-Mobile.

Only one way to find out, and we're just about there.

Seems like such an easy fix. K's are obviously not caused by grass or the marine layer. Has to be the whacked batter's eye.

Should at least help that he strikes out 6% of the time less than J.P. does. At least.. he did until he came to Seattle.

For some reason the Mariners seem to want to act like there's no problem with the batters eye.

Probably because it makes our pitching look good..

Unfortunately, it makes our pitching kind of a mirage and we get beat up in road games and everyone wonders why. Well, it's because they're not as good as they seem to be in Seattle.

Anyways, glad the season's almost here.

Well that and it costs money that they can't justify an ROI for....like hot dogs from heaven and the Salmon races....

Stanton: How much do each of the Salmon costumes cost?

Marketing schmuck: $357

Stanton: What? That's a lot of money

Marketing schmuck: But we have calculated that at least 339 idiot fans will bring their dopey kids to the the games just for that reason netting us almost $20k a home game in additional revenue!

Stanton: Holy shit! Make it so! And congrats on your new promotion to assistant to the associate marketing Schmuck!

The thing about Donovan is the attitude. His seems legit and pretty relentless...
After being drafted by St. Louis in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB draft, Brendan gravitated to Cardinals mental skills and well-being coordinator Brian Alazzawi, whose background included 18 years with the Navy SEALs.

In 2022, Alazzawi gifted the revelatory rookie a sign the SEALs hung during training. Which is how this motivational memento lived for years in Donovan’s locker:

THE ENEMY THANKS YOU FOR NOT GIVING 100% TODAY
Terms of the spring he had, wanted to make the team
My goal every year is to make the team out of camp, and that’s a goal I set for myself. Obviously I was traded over here, but I still look at that as an opportunity. I want to make the team first.”
“He’s a pro, a stinkin’ pro,” Mariners hitting coach Kevin Seitzer raved in a recent interview with 710 AM Seattle Sports. “Fans are going to love this dude. They’re going to soak him up the way they did Naylor last year.”
My prediction is bpj is going to have a hard time not liking him

I really liked Brendan Ryan for his heart and hustle too.

Still sucked.

I predict Brendan Donovan looks like JP Crawford on paper at the end of the season.

A .700-.720 OPS guy.

It's not that there's nothing there to like, it was just way oversold.

We needed to replace Jorge Polanco and Geno Suarez's bats and we got Brendan Ryan and Rob Refsnyder.

No upgrades in sight.

Yeah, I don't see him as replacing polanco or Suarez as much as adding a lead-off off hitter. So long as he does that well it's not his business to have to replace them

Funny enough, he hasn't performed particularly well in the leadoff spot in his career, despite getting half his at bats there.

We'll see how it goes. He didnt play any 3B last season either. I don't expect a seamless transition for Donovan.

He's (already) essentially been JP Crawford while batting leadoff. His OPS by batting order position, 2025 and Career:
