What if Hancock is for real?
There are going to be some critical decisions that are going to need to be made. How do you make room to find out if Anderson and Sloan have what it takes? Who do you choose to extend? Do you trade the ones who you don't extend or run the wheels off them and let em walk in Free agency.

I think its a foregone conclusion that Castillo is gone after this season.

Gilbert FA in 28
Kirby FA in 29
Woo FA in 30
Miller FA in 30
Hancock FA in 31
Anderson and Sloan soonest possible FA in 33 if they came up next season.

I think at least one of the young guys will be ready by next year which means that even with Castillo gone, you still have a log jam next season. Do you trade someone? Just knowing what we know about The M's self imposed budget it seems unlikely that they sign more than 1 or 2 of these guys long term. Gilbert is the first up so do you extend him or do you wait and offer that extension to Kirby or Woo. Maybe they go cheap and don't extend anyone and we see Anderson in the rotation in 28 and then Sloan in 29.

Of the group I think that Miller is the one I have the least confidence in both in terms of quality and durability. I think Woo is the one I'd most like to extend. I think If I were making the decisions, I might look to unload Gilbert next off season and extend Kirby. Your opening day rotation in 27 Would be Kirby Woo, Miller Hancock and Anderson with everyone other than Kirby controlled for at least 3 years . Then if you can get a Woo extension done after the 27 season, you can look at trading Miller to make room for Sloan. The Rotation in 28 would be Kirby, Woo, Hancock, Anderson and Sloan with everyone controlled for at least 3 years.
I am not concerned with extending any of them. Look I like these guys as much as anybody does. But you have to acknowledge that it is easier to develop pitching prospects in T-Mobile. The have other than the current starting 5 if healthy: ( Gilbert, Kirby, Woo, Miller, Castillo) They have ( Hancock who threw a No-No after adjusting his stuff,
Logan Evans who had a 4.32 ERA and has upper 90-s stuff
Kade Anderson #3 overall a 6’2” lefty who started in AA #2 prospect in a strong M’s system
Ryan Sloan #3 prospect in a strong M’s system 6’ 5” 220# and has that Bryan Woo leg thickness only supersized.

Look, If Gilbert does not want to sign a team friendlly extension; trade him to a contender for prospects to a 3rd team to get a J. Duran level upgrade to the BP and bring in 2/4 the 4 MLB ready guys you project for 2026. Luis gone, that is 1/4.

The future pitching looks good despite couple of good ones (top 100’s) going out they door in Jurangelo, and Brady Hopkins # 86= Randy A. Deal in the last couple of years

So would you look to deal them or give them qualifying offers and let them walk?

Good visual representation of the difference in pitching in the last 20 years.

These are sorted by Fastball Velocity of Starting Pitchers:

The average team is throwing 4mph faster than 20 years ago. That's 1-5 in the rotation, average team starters are throwing 94.5mph. Crazy.

Felix in 2007 had an average fastball velocity of 95.6 mph, and he was #1 in MLB.

Now the entire Miami Marlins staff average 95.7 and two other pitching staffs average 95.6.
