These from Australian news outlets, just a quick skim. Seems the focus is a sluggish first half. No, it doesn't sound particularly close either

Australia finished the game with 30 per cent possession to the USA's 61 per cent (with nine per cent contested).

The USA had nine attempts at goal to Australia's two
Positives to take away

While it's not the result Australia was after, Harry Kewell says there were positives to take away from the second half.

"It was just disappointing that we didn't have this energy in the first half," he said.

"You need to play constantly at 100 per cent, you need to go for it.
Socceroos coach Tony Popovic opted for some surprising selections and no doubt the most scrutinised will be keeping young star forward Nestory Irankunda on the bench in the first half.

He was able to break through and set up a ball on a plate for fellow sub Christian Volpato, who unfortunately skied it.

Former Socceroo and broadcasting legend Craig Foster told SBS the decision not to start Irankunda had a high cost

Yeah the Aussies looked tired and sluggish, and still the U.S. struggled to score and needed some breaks. But sure they were dominant. Time of possession doesn't matter that much if you can't put the ball through the goal without mugging the goalie.

Did you even watch the match? It could have been 4-0 easily. The Aussies weren't going to win that game if they got EVERY SINGLE call.

Bumping the thread as it’s a big day in Association Football’s FIFA men’s World Cup.

The random rest day in the Mariners series with the Angels is because Lumen is being used for the Belgium-Senegal game.

Here is the lineup….

9am PDT / 5pm BST in Atlanta
England v Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire)
winners play Mexico in Mexico on Sunday

1pm PDT / 9pm BST in Seattle
Belgium v Senegal
winners stay in Seattle to face winners of USA v Bosnia

5pm PDT / 1am BST in Santa Clara
United States v Bosnia and Herzegovina

Come on England / Come on USA.

  (maybe Darren amends the thread title in the original post to USA v {placeholder} )

Three quarters of England's game gone and 0-1 down to the mighty  Zaire.

Need some seth-style intervention or a reverse jinx of epic proportions. The most inept England performance since they lost 0-1 to Iceland in the Euro Championship in 2016.

Its so desperate I'm praying for donkey Ivan Toney to come on and England start hoofing long balls to the big fella up front. (donkey isn't a compliment btw  )
