The Cubs DFA Taillon after a tough 15 starts.

Had a 3.68 ERA and 3.27 ERA in back to back years.

They will eat around $6M.

The M's could never.

I think they have missed the window with this current crop of talent. Its abundantly obvious that they don't have a legitimate ace and they don't have a legitimate middle of the order franchise bat. They aren't going to have a legit chance again until either Sloane or Anderson develops into a true ace and Emerson and Young actually reach physical maturity and prove to be cornerstone players.

They need to throw in the towel on this year. Its going to be a sellers market with so many teams in playoff contention and they will have the opportunity to beef up an already stacked minor league system.

I would do a mini rebuild and offload anyone that I could that is past their first year of arbitration. That includes Randy, Gilbert, Munoz, Kirby, Donovan, and Speier. Obviously I'd also try to unload Castillo and JP if anyone would take them. Stock pile a ton of prospects and then use the prospects to retool via trades during the off season. That would also free up approximately 75 Million in payroll which might be able to entice a couple legit free agents rather than the dumpster dives that Jerry usually goes after. If they do that they could be back in the World Series hunt in a couple of years. continue down this path and they are just going to kind of tread water as arbitration numbers creep up and prevent any significant roster additions.

Those are the pictures that JP has which is why he will sign a 2-year $ 28 million extension this offseason.

His agent probably pushed it for financial security, especially with Castillo being a pitcher. The nature of baseball, you have to overpay for guys and eat at least one bad season.

The Kraken just went through something that was completely the opposite. They tried to do a sign-and-trade for a star player from Dallas and offered 8 years and 120 million which would have made him the 2nd-highest player in the league. He said nope and took a one year, 12 million dollar extension from Dallas instead. Insane.

My idea is trade one Cal, Julio or Naylor to anyone willing to pony up. See if a shake up works. But, I'm sure they'll just fire the assistant to the assistant in charge of bunting and hold a press conference about the big shake up.
