Cole Young needed last year to be better this year. How can you be so stubbornly obtuse about this? Young players need AB's to get better, so Emerson will get better given time...the same way Young got better with time...the same as Edgar got better with time....the same as ARod got better with time...the same as Junior got better with time. And did you happen to THINK that maybe because the defense is so bad this year that maybe that would be why the pitching has not been as good???? Also, if Arraez is so damn good, why does no one want to keep him? Oh sure, someone will always take a flyer, but no one really wants him on their team.bpj wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 8:57 amI don't think handing him 2B when it was one of the few roster spots available was the right move. We didn't need defense. Especially defensive WAR, lol.Lamda wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 7:01 amNot sure why you included Young in the shit list when he's been the lone bright spot this year unless you just don't like him because. He's claimed 2B going forward and I submit he's going to improve even more the next year or two and settle into a nice 20-25/80-90 hr/rbi type player. If we are lucky Emerson will make the same strides next year.bpj wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 5:09 am
Nobody bought into Cal being a star harder than Dipollander did.
Even hitting 60 homeruns Cal barely had a "good" OPS.
But they thought the middle of the order was taken care of.
All we needed was a Rob Refsnyder here. A Mitch Garver there. A Cole Young. An Emerson.
Not going to win with this kind of lineup imo.
Especially when our starting pitchers are mostly a T-Mobile mirage. A bunch of 4+ ERA pitchers disguised by T-Mobile.
He's not a "problem". But he's provided 20% less offense than the guy I wanted and campaigned for, so I included him despite not being our biggest problem.
The Mariners dedicating one of the few spots to him kind of is their problem in general though. The good 'nuff policy.
And why should we expect Emerson to be better next year? Why didn't Cole Young "need more time"?

ARod sucked in the Majors at 18 and 19 because the idiots in charge brought him up for no reason. His best season was in 1996 as a 20 yo. Compare that to Colts 20 yo season and report back...
I will save you some time.
Colt Emerson .196/.611
Arod .358/1.045

What was weird was that A-Rod then regressed in 1997 and then took off again in 1998. I wonder if that's when he started juicing.
I do think we should be optimistic about Young and Emerson getting better with experience. That's usually the way it works out. Well, not for Julio who peaked as a rookie.

So, the defense has been bad- but only on the road since almost all of them do just fine in T-Mobile?Bil522 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 9:19 pmCole Young needed last year to be better this year. Sorry Stretch, that doesn't check out. So, no, I don't THINK that- even when you use all caps.
We had a DH spot open. 2B open. And 3B open.
They added Donovan and Refsnyder. LOL. LMFAO even.
And then they decided to hand 2B to Cole Young.
I don't blame Young that he's not that good yet.
I blame Dipoto amd Hollander because they half-assed the offseason and added zero impact players across the few vacancies we had to fill in what should have been a season we easily win the AL West.
Arraez will get paid this offseason after proving to the nerds that defense isn't that difficult.

Re: Official MLB Trade Deadline Thread (Rumors and Ideas Welcome)
The Astros and Twins apparently agreed to a trade to send Bryan Abreu for Trevor Larnach, but it was vetoed by the Astros owner before it could be finalized.
Abreu has a 4.74 ERA and 5.21 FIP. He has 2 months left of control.
Larnach an .812 OPS and on pace for a 2.5 fWAR season. He has 1.2 years of control left.
Abreu did have a solid July with a 1.64 ERA...
But this seems criminally stupid.

Not only accuracy but distance as well! Have you looked at Paul Horung's kicking stats??? Hilarious. How did Lombardi not lose his marbles??? 12/38 in 1964!!!! LMAODavidGee24 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 7:32 pmHe's DH'd in 67 games and caught in 41, so he's their backup catcher. What's odd is that their starting catcher has a - 0.4 WAR. Herrera's defense must be awful for him to be the backup to a bum. Hopefully he has a good attitude about it and he'd be replacing Garver which is a good thing in every way, shape and form possible.D-train wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 6:59 pmA catcher!! LOL I would rather have Efren...DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 6:35 pmDavid Schoenfield at ESPN has us trading Hancock to the Tards for Ivan Herrera. I think I'd do that trade, Herrera has regressed in 2026 but is only 26, has good pop and gets on base. https://www.baseball-reference.com/play ... iv01.shtml
Could you imagine if Efren Herrera was our kicker now with his career FG percentage of 67.8% and season high of 82.6%? Different times. If Jason Myers made 82.6% of his field goals we'd show up at Lumen with torches and pitchforks. I don't think that anything in sports has advanced more rapidly than field goal kicking.

They have to trade Randy, in my opinion. Kirby can wait until the offseason if you don't think the right deal is there, but he's ultimately on his way out as well.
Re: Official MLB Trade Deadline Thread (Rumors and Ideas Welcome)
So we are 51 hours from the deadline and not a single move. Never any urgency....

Speaking of urgency why is Ace Reese our 1st round pick playing baseball yet. He only play 62 games this Spring and has had two months to rest. WTF?
