first and middle initial followed by my last name. It's also my email address. I probably had the same handle back in the ST days.bpj wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2026 1:46 amUhh, haven't heard this tidbit before, spill it, who are you?trharder wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2026 12:28 amI was a sports columnist at the Seattle Times for 11 years. Was never a big fan of Caulkins, but he's not wrong. This:
"I’ve always thought that it was a columnist’s duty to generate discussion on the most hot-button issues. To avoid such topics was to leave the reader shortchanged. I guess in the end, I just didn’t feel like I could do my job properly anymore."
Nobody likes to be muzzled. At least, nobody with a brain who is capable of independent thought.
My new favorite peeve? The phrase, 'See something, say something'. This is actively promoted, yet it's an empty phrase. Because it only applies to very particular pre-approved situations. Nobody can prevent you from seeing something. But for the most part, the preference is to not say anything. Calling out people and events and questioning them is forbidden.
Fauci is a good example. There is no reason to think that he has anything to hide. He is allowed to plead the 5th on EVERY question posed to him. And who are you (or I) to question that?

I am truly surprised ANYONE actually reads US Newspapers or participates in the 'news/media' any more. How many lessons do you have to learn? It's not real. It's all slant/propoganda. Was covid 'coverage' not the final straw? What could be a more glaring, blantant example? The LA Times actually ran an article smearing Larry Elder, a black, self-made man entering the mayoral race, ' the black face of white supremecy'. I'll never consume these utterly nonsensical/propoganda rags again - and I haven't for years. What an INSANE headline to write.
There was a time when media was genuine and real - those days are long gone. They've all been bought and sold. My God, what do people need to have happen to wake up and understand this? No, seriously, what the fuck is it going to take?
I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that, after all the lies, all the deceptions, all the bullshit, all the propoganda, after that, after two-plus years of blatant lying and deception and coverup of all the covid BS - by these news papers etal, and there is anyone left actually still consuming what you KNOW is false? Jesus Christ. Why? WHY? What are you expecting from known liars? Sudden truths?

Does everyone understand how we got to the point that they're legally using State Department foreign propaganda on American citizens to sway public opinion?

It's funny. In Seattle this story is killed, and here at Eastmont? This girl is celebrated. Great kid and a good family. No reason she shouldn't be allowed to stand up for her belief that she shouldn't have to compete against a boy in a race. See this photo and tell me this makes sense.

I heard the actor Rob Schneider say something that always stuck with me:
"They want diversity of look, but not diversity of thought or ideas."
He's referring to Hollywood, but it easily applies to society or the establishment as well.
