Vogy was a patient hitter i guess. He didnt strike me as a future successful hitting coach particularly. As fans i think we are disconnected from that. All these aspects to hitting

It is odd for sure but not unusual. Now if he was a Perry hill defensive coach then I would be shocked. lol

It's striking that Taylor Ward, who famously remade himself as a patient hitter that walks a lot, immediately reverted to a high strikeout, low walk hitter the second he put on a Mariner uniform. There's something going on with what they're emphasizing to these guys.

If they were discouraging their leadoff hitter from taking walks then that would be highly unusual i think.

I hadnt realized what another disaster thats turned into. I cant believe they went at him to change anything. Hes really a analytical guy. He has a definite approach that should have fit well with the mariner suoposed approach. Seriously, why do these guys come and just colapse?

Heres a look at him as a hitter, total mystery

Julio's hit in the leadoff spot quite a lot in his career and he's never walked much and to my knowledge never been criticized for it.

The Mariners jerk Ward around, and just as expected, he falls off a cliff like everyone they try to "protect" with a platoon.

People didn't think the Mariners would platoon Ward once he got here.

And they haven't in the strictest sense, but when you have 27 plate appearances against LHP and only 21 plate appearances against RHP since joining the team, they're jerking ya around.

"Limiting his exposure to tough righties."

How's it going, dumbass Mariners?
