I really think it's just how this year has gone, everything the Mariner organization has touched has turned to shit. Kade puts up one of the best minor league seasons ever, then puts on a Mariner uniform and totally sucks. How Montes has escaped the Sadim (Midas spelled backwards) Touch thus far is a miracle.

And the Mariners half-ass another game, now 4-7 into the league's easiest schedule in September.

I don;t know what the fuck happened to this team but they can’t hit, pitch, or field. Earlier in the year they had like above average OPS+, ERA+, and now they do this shit where if the BP holds up the SPs fail or if they get a good start they can’t generate runs or close.

Total shit show.

And I feel it all goes back to not getting J. Duran!

Anderson was pitching half his games in possibly the most pitcher friendly park in the minor leagues. But he was also dominant in away games and the other Texas league parks are supposed to be closer to average in park factor, so there is that. But I think not experiencing the joy of pitching in some of the high altitude parks in the PCL may have been a mistake.

Right now, according to Statcast, he's using his 4-seam fastball 41% of the time. That isn't crazy, but it's still probably too much. To be effective at this level, he'll need to really perfect his secondary pitches. But leaning on the fastball is a very Mariner approach to pitching.

He's also going to need to pitch to contact to some degree and rolling out the worst defensive team in baseball doesn't really help with that.

There were things Anderson could get away with in the minors that he can't in the majors. He has to stay on the corners. He could get away with a changeup drifting over the plate in the majors, it's getting hammered in the majors. He's a soft tosser, it's strategy and hitting the corners. There's going to be a learning curve

The Sad thing is that the team actually has been hitting fairly well lately but Pitching has gone AWOL.
The M's have an .806 OPS this month. They've scored 4.88 runs per game over the last 28 days (which would be a pace for 700 runs over a full season. Cal has an OPS over 1.000 for the last 28 days. Meanwhile the pitching has thrown up a 6.11 ERA over the last 28 days. The Bullpen is a dumpster fire and Gilbert and Kirby who are supposed to be the backbone of this thing have been getting lit up.

Now I am not be best baseball mind on these boards, so I may be wrong, but my opinion is:

Anderson is a finesse pitcher that has a below average 4-seam fastball, but for some reason they keep calling him to throw it.

His changeup, curve and slider are all better than his 4-seam.

The club is trying to change him into the EXACT SAME pitcher that we already have 4 of....which explain why the staff is giving up so many hits this season.

Right handed 4-seam pitchers.... all from 95-97 mph average.
