It is literally impossible for a major league hitter to have a .129 SLG% in almost 100 PAs but his has somehow pulled it off....
The MLB record for lowest slugging percentage for a player who posted at least 100 plate appearances for a team is .186 by Ray Oyler in 1968 for the Tigers in 247 plate appearances. I'm surprised that more isn't made of this, 1968 was the perfect storm year for pitching that led to Bob Gibson's 1.12 ERA which is regarded as the best pitching season in modern baseball history whereas Oyler had the worst hitting season.

And unless Ward suddenly hits three or four bombs he's going to break Oyler's record.

This poster is in attendance to suffer the matchup of two of MLB’s least appealing 2026 teams.
I drive past Angel Stadium to and from work and have zero urge to watch this team in person. I'd actually rather watch the teams from the 70s and 80s in person.
Let's getting cracking on a time machine. I would love to go back the that ERA and give another shot....
Me too. Some of those teams were entertaining.

Or on the other hand, players could be happy with it because it demonstrates that they will stick with a guy even if he's sucking. I think players mostly are concerned about their own survival, seeing that can indicate their getting the same patience if and when they suck.
Call me crazy but I think that first and foremost players want to win. I play, albeit at a much lower level and I know for a fact that the guys I play ball with don't want someone who can't hit at all in the lineup. I know you can't stop yourself from being contrarian but your take was pretty embarrassing.

btw you "what has gone wrong with the season post has about 50 likes and counting on X"
And I forgot to mention Jo Adell's three home run robbery game. To the best of my knowledge nobody in the history of MLB had even robbed two in one game. And it happened to this team in this season. You can't make this shit up.

The front office, especially those on the business side, see great value in a forum such as this one despite its overwhelming negative sentiments.

Business people grow concern when no one is talking about their product. An analogy is found in the old adage "Bad publicity is better than no publicity."

The concept is discussed in this free online course Value Co-Creation in Sports Mangement:

Good to see you, harmony - it's been a minute.

I get the point about engagement and “bad publicity,” but that’s not really addressing what I’m saying.

The front office clearly cares about the bottom line. No argument there. What they don’t appear committed to is winning ... and by extension, the kind of sustained fan satisfaction that comes from fielding a competitive roster instead of scavenging for the cheapest available parts.

There’s a big difference between valuing discussion about the product and actually investing in making the product better. One keeps the conversation (and the revenue) going. The other costs money and risks the comfortable status quo of mediocrity that still sells enough tickets and merch.

Other franchises seem willing to eat some short-term profit to chase real contention. This one looks content to keep the lights on with dumpster-dive talent and bank on the fact that enough of us will stick around anyway.

come on, I understand the need to criticize but they don't have a particularly low payroll these days, dtrain has brought that up himself, the Brewers and Rays both have lower payrolls. They just gave $90 mil to a rookie. there are issues but don't believe one is them is their greedily taking profits. I don't believe they are taking profits period. I do believe they run it in such a way where they aren't needing to invest cash.

It's not being cheap.

Sure that's part of it.

It's that they legitimately don't give a tinker's cuss about winning or losing. Mariners fans show up no matter what.

If you have a losing season and you manage the Dodgers or the Yankees or a host of other teams, your head is on a pike. This team? A collective "meh" from the front office.

Factually this is a profitable team, and factually them owners profit enormously whether we win or lose. There is no collective urgency to finally deliver - just a rotation of mediocrity. I am not sure how anyone can argue with this. Anything else they do is window dressing.

So why did Stanton originally become involved as an owner? It wasn't an interest in baseball, it was because he saw it as a cash cow. Honestly, a tech guy looking to invest in a business to make money is going to look at owning a baseball team as opposed to a tech business?

Yep, definitely wish we had owners that wanted to win more but I put them behind the FO in terms of who to blame.

He is on record saying he runs the team like any other business. I saw the video interview.
