They implemented a failed strategy together. It couldn't be more obvious that Jerry Dipoto's arm has been buried up every single manager's ass that he's had.

They all follow his terrible platoon strategy like good little pansies who got hired to begin with because they understood the assigmlnment- to do what Jerry wants.
So, all Wilson had to do was not use Jerry's lineup card and they would've won 100 games in 2026?

Don't use the platoon? Disregard the splits? Win 100 games?

I'm still a bit baffled on the concept here. So, the GM is choosing the lineup, and if he just would've let Wilson choose his own lineup, then Raleigh hits 60 homers again?

What would the problem be with the manager using Jerry's lineup card if you liked Jerry's lineup card? If you were in favor of Jerry's strategies, then wouldn't you want the manager to do what Jerry wants?

I think this all gets back to the fact that this isn't really an Xs and Os game. Nobody is scheming up an NFL offense or defense. A 12 year old could pencil in a lineup. The idea that the manager has to battle for his own lineup as a key to success is silly. What you need is good players.

Obviously there was no way this team was even going to win 90 games let alone 100, but all those games where they batted Refsnyder first or fourth, or pinch-hit either him or some other gawd-awful right-handed hitter which took Canzone and/or Raley out of the game in the fifth or sixth inning might well have added up to a few very avoidable losses. Of course you can't put a number on how many of those games would have been won, but Dipoto and/or Wilson most certainly minimized the chances of victory on several occasions.

Deaf mute lol.

His vocabulary and ability to form sentences is gonna take them straight to the top!
Yep, if he can form the right sentences to turn mid players into good ones...
You don't think that Dan Wilson umming and "you know"ing through talking to his players could have been an issue? I imagine that if this guy is a better communicator? That will only help.

Wilson was the wrong hire, that's on Jerry. We don't know if this is the right or wrong hire yet, that's for sure. But to believe that Jerry has been successful here and just chalk it up to a few guys didn't hit or pitch? Jesus H. Christ. The guy has been to two playoff appearances in a decade. Smashing fucking success....we should just sit back and thank him for wanting to win 54 out of 100! Christ sakes.

What about the track record of Jerry Dipoto has you so sure he should be making these decisions? You just throw out bullshit accusations with zero to back it. Jerry has been in charge of this the entire time....and the team has only produced at the plate to finish like one season. So? He went into that off season, made the team worse and blamed payroll. Fuck Jerry. And I can't believe you spend this much time excusing a failed plan!

That was the issue with their platoon strategy. They do disregard the platoon splits and go wit the shitty hitter over the guy raking just because of handedness and stubbornness. As I have said they could have stole a Chimpanzee for the Zoo and he could have made out the lineups based only on if guys are LH or RH hitters....

If they would have actually looked at the platoon analytics and let the better hitters hit they would have made the playoffs in 2023 and this past season.

It's reasonable to conclude that Wilson had direction from the front office on the use of platoons for Raley and Canzone. I doubt it was 100% prescriptive to the point where he had no latitude whatsoever, but obviously they signed Refsnyder for a reason and they expected the manager to be on board with that. I don't really have a problem with that and I would expect similar alignment with Kanzler or anyone else they hired for the Field Manager role.

Alignment is one thing. What we do, regardless of if it works or not? Is fucked up.

They trade for and OF and the first interview with the GM he mentions how he and Jerry are going to go meet with Dan to discuss where he will bat in the lineup! Can you imagine that conversation coming from Gillick before he goes to meet with Sweet Lou? Sure, different times....but come one.

I can't imagine the line of actual proven managers that want to work for this organization is very long.

I think you have this romantic notion of what a field manager is supposed to be that is largely out of date. I don't think there are any managers like Lou Piniella anymore. It's a different, more analytically driven era. Front offices are driven by analytics more than ever before, and managers are expected to be on board with that on the execution side.
