Even without any prospects panning out, the trade allowed them to change course which is probably almost as important as the actual return was

This is a pretty good off season plan:

Has Hand, Bauer and Brantley in common with mine.

First free agent deal of the offseason is done. Left-hander Robbie Ray and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a one-year, $8 million deal, a source familiar with the contract tells ESPN. Good start to the hot stove for Toronto, which will use Ray as a starter, and for Ray.

Good thought put into it for sure, nice plan. Winning team too.
Can we imagine them paying more to get rid of Seager than he's due by playing out his contract?
I think they're as likely to rework his contract to a 2/22 as they are to trade him, but I don't think they'll pick up more than $8M in a trade.
Whatever they do with Seager, good plan by this guy.
Re: 2020-2021 Hot Stove Thread
Yeah they aren't trading Seager and I'm not sold on Kim. The kid weighs 167lbs. Those are the flaws in his otherwise good plan.bpj wrote: ↑Sat Nov 07, 2020 8:00 pmD-train wrote: ↑Sat Nov 07, 2020 5:12 pmThis is a pretty good off season plan:

Re: 2020-2021 Hot Stove Thread
I'd still like to trade Seager and sign Gregorious...Seager improved this year... think his value is up and for me, he's still too pull happy, too slow, and too easy to strike out.... and he's blocking our future..
Choices for pitcher to start would be Morton, Lester, Kluber.... Morton and/or Lester could provide veteran leadership and both could provide excellent advice on improving the curve balls on the staff. Kluber likewise.... and all three would benefit from a six man rotation....Walker had three decent starts with the M's but he's no where near the pedigree of these three... Paxton is not durable...
What did we get for Walker when we shipped him to Toronto:? A PTBNL Alberto Rodriguez.... We have a 20 year old Dominican right fielder(Alberto Rodriguez) with some decent speed and a little gap power.... had 108 games of rookie ball in '18 and '19 with slash line of .274/.356/.747 including 53 BB/87 SO which is acceptable. Just have to wait and see...that may be a good trade...
We already kno w we got good value for Paxton with rookie starter Sheffield, reliever Eric Swanson, and throw in outfield prospect Dom Thompson-Williams. I don't think we could cash that check again....

I favor a 2/22 scenario. Kyle goes to p/t 3b (assuming a replacement is ready), LHDH, maybe a few innings at 2b, to cement the scenario of Corey playing with his older brother.bpj wrote: ↑Sat Nov 07, 2020 8:00 pmD-train wrote: ↑Sat Nov 07, 2020 5:12 pmThis is a pretty good off season plan:

Kyle eventually gets a Ms HoF nod, this identifying g the Seager name with the franchise. This will be arranged in advance.
It’s romantic, I know, but baseball is a game that falls sway to romantic notions.

Yeah, this is the guy I thought Ms should take a chance on to shore up the rotation in the #4 slot. Glad to see someone taking him.D-train wrote: ↑Sat Nov 07, 2020 7:51 pmBoom, not us but the Hot Stove league is officially underway.

Re: 2020-2021 Hot Stove Thread
Agreed, I think worst case scenario we send Seager out as our expensive utility player that way. Of every player thats been a Mariner in recent memory, Seager has been an excellent example for the younger players, imo. I'd love to see him retire as a Mariner.Petert wrote: ↑Sun Nov 08, 2020 3:20 amI favor a 2/22 scenario. HoF is an awesome thought, but you're right, probably unlikely. Still, retiring as a Mariner and maybe even seeing a winning team along the way... I'd love to see Seager still be here for it.
