Re: 2020-2021 Hot Stove Thread
Those were the years that began with Lincoln and Armstrong having discovered "the formula". As though they had somehow picked the brains of Gillick and Pinella and had now somehow cultivated superior baseball intellects to the rest of the organizations in baseball.

According to Baseball Trade Values, the removal of Ender Inciarte from the deal would require the substitution of Logan Gilbert for Taylor Trammell.D-train wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 4:27 pmI would do Seager and Trammel for Riley. They can keep Inciarte. But I guess we have to take him to offset salary? If so he can be our 5th OFer or trade him for an old King Dog.harmony wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 4:07 pmWould anyone trade Kyle Seager and Taylor Trammell to Atlanta for third baseman Austin Riley and center fielder Ender Inciarte?
Baseball Trade Values has the trade as a perfect match:

The Mariners gamble that Riley replaces Seager long-term and Inciarte provides a bridge to Seattle’s touted outfield prospects.
Seager joins the club closest to his North Carolina roots and Trammell returns to his home state.
But I am a fan of Kyle Seager, an underrated player whose lefthanded power bat is needed in the Mariner lineup.

Re: 2020-2021 Hot Stove Thread
yeah, i was thinking about that actually...The reason for having Inciarte in the trade is to move his salary, that is, that would be the reason for the trade in the first place isn't it? Not sure i see the point of them giving up Austin Riley to move Inciarte's salary just to take on Seager's salary. You can argue Seager gives them more immediate production at 3rd perhaps. But i am thinking in the end they would want to come out of it with less salary on the books if they are going to give up their prospect
Re: 2020-2021 Hot Stove Thread
Yeah I wouldn't do it if I were them. Riley seems to be a far better prospect than Trammell but if they want to win now they might want to go with a more proven 3B and perhaps they need OF prospects.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 3:24 pmyeah, i was thinking about that actually...The reason for having Inciarte in the trade is to move his salary, that is, that would be the reason for the trade in the first place isn't it? Austin Riley and Taylor Trammell were first-round draft picks out of high school a year apart. Riley quickly rose through the minors but has generally disappointed at the MLB level while Trammell has stalled in the minors. Their Baseball America prospect rankings:D-train wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 4:11 pmYeah I wouldn't do it if I were them. Riley 2018 (54), 2019 (22)
Trammell 2018 (48), 2019 (33), 2020 (73)
Re: 2020-2021 Hot Stove Thread
Riley might have not met expectations but I will bet a lot of money that Trammel doesn't put up a .736 OPS as 22 yo rookie and a 23 yo second year player. He couldn't even manage a .700 OPS as a 21 yo in AA ball.harmony wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 4:54 pmAustin Riley and Taylor Trammell were first-round draft picks out of high school a year apart. And defensively Austin Riley could not save a run at third base:D-train wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 5:10 pmRiley might have not met expectations but I will bet a lot of money that Trammel doesn't put up a .736 OPS as 22 yo rookie and a 23 yo second year player. Yeah I did see that.
