But he seems intent on getting the value he believes he deserves as a two-time winner of the Sawamura Award, Japan’s version of the Cy Young.
I place the value of an untested Sugano, Japan's version of the Cy Young as somewhere between Brian Shaw and LJ Newsome. That is not to say that the Japanese Darvish on the other hand isn't a premier pitcher, but a DNA test on Darvish reveals he is 53% Persian and 14% Kenyan alongside his Japanese heritage, a distant descendant of Emperor Xerxes which explains his freakish neck, elongated body structure, and second vocation as a kareoke rapper...

LOL I wonder how many Iranian Japanese there are in this world. Probably 5 more than Mexican Ukrainians.

Seager to the Mets would be interesting.

S*** or get off the pot. Why waste his last season if they don't care about getting the wild card spot anyways.

I actually think Seager would go down well with the fans in NY. He’s a grinder, and although his defense has fallen off a bit, he’d be the best they’ve had there since David Wright. If they were interested in Seager, I would be curious to see what additional talent it would take to pry McNeil loose.

Pretty clear what happened. At the end of the season, ownership probably gave JD the green light to spend a bit to actually compete but then they got the memo that none of the other owners were going to spend so now JD is in dumpster dive mode and having to come up with this backend compete for a playoff spot nonsense. Clowns.

Damn.

A contributor on a Boston forum argued that the Red Sox should trade for a younger potential ace rather than signing a free agent for what could be a post-prime contract. The fan targeted Pittsburgh righthander Jameson Taillon and I responded with this comp:
FWIW righthander Jameson Taillon has an ERA+ of 112 in 466 career innings while free agent righthander Taijuan Walker, who is nine months younger than Taillon, has an ERA+ of 108 in 581.2 career innings.

Since the start of the 2019 season Taillon has an ERA+ of 106 in 37.1 innings while Walker has an ERA+ of 165 in 54.1 innings.

Taillon and Walker were taken out of high school in the 2010 draft, Taillon with the second pick and Walker with the 43rd pick. The Baseball America Top 100 prospects lists ranked Taillon and Walker No. 15 and No. 20 in 2012, No. 19 and and No. 18 in 2013 and No. 22 and No. 11 in 2014.

Taillon has undergone Tommy John surgery twice and Walker once; Taillon also had surgery for testicular cancer.

Baseball Reference lists Taillon at 6-5, 230 pounds and Walker at 6-4, 235 pounds. Combined, they're Taijuan Taillon.
Taillon and/or Walker would be welcome in Seattle under the right terms.
