2020-2021 Hot Stove Thread
Re: 2020-2021 Hot Stove Thread
Soria is one name that hasn’t been bandied about the forum as a bullpen addition, but it is interesting. I’m curious to see how we stack up (in terms of an offer) against the others interested in him.
Re: 2020-2021 Hot Stove Thread
This season is particularly difficult because they're basing it off of a 60 game 2020, but the only thing that would concern me about Soria is his K rate dropped to lower than typical recent levels while his BB rate increased, a bad combo.
And he's 36.
But, again a 60 game sample, so
Makes it an especially difficult offseason to try and pick up 36 year olds, imo.

pretty exciting waiting for them to sign another reliever

In the meantime, Musgrove off the board, with the Padres going for broke, it seems. Pirates land a wealth of talent. I doubt we could have matched what they received, without causing some serious grief. Good for them.

Yeah we're not ready for that type of move yet. We're getting closer though.Petert wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 12:12 amIn the meantime, Musgrove off the board, with the Padres going for broke, it seems. That I agree with, we should not be trading our top 10 prospects.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 12:18 amYeah we're not ready for that type of move yet. Even being my first choice, I wouldn't have parted with too much for Musgrove when there are acceptable free agents available.
It it turns out to be a quantity for quality trade, 5 guys in the 10-100 range, I might have pulled the trigger.

Re: 2020-2021 Hot Stove Thread
the key being...
The main takeaway here is that the Padres remain serious about vying for a World Series – something they have never won – in the near future. Even if it doesn’t happen in the short term, though, the Padres appear to be set up to succeed for the long haul. Their MLB roster is one of the game’s best, and as BA notes on Twitter, the Padres still lead the league with seven top 100 prospects.

Just saw this on their #1 prospect. I think if I was on an opposing high school team I would rather have poisoned myself an hour before the game that face this guy. Unreal.
Gore posted video-game numbers during his junior and senior seasons at Whiteville (N.C.) High, the latter of which netted him 2017 Gatorade National Player of the Year honors after he went 11-0 with a 0.19 ERA and 158/5 K/BB in just 74 1/3 innings.
