Jerry Dipoto and Position Players
Re: Jerry Dipoto and Position Players
Gareth Morgan is my fav Jack Z pick. The 2014 second rounder form Canada that never made it past A ball but struck out 840 times in 1878 PAs 45% K rate. lol

The thread figured it out. You can't just point out results in a vacuum and call it analysis. Minimally, you need some sort of baseline to compare those results to before you even dig into all of the complicating factors that make this sort of analysis incredibly difficult.

I remember that one. If I recall correctly, it was an interesting gamble on a high upside athlete that didn't grow up in a baseball-intensive environment. In a sense, that sort of risk isn't dissimilar to signing these 16 year-olds in Latin America, nearly all of whom never even make it to the States.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2026 8:52 pmGareth Morgan is my fav Jack Z pick. Sure but the DR is at least the most baseball intense country on the planet. But you are right. Julio is the only one in the Jerry era to make it..right?GL_Storm wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2026 8:59 pmI remember that one. Mike Chernoff of Cleveland and Ross Atkins of Toronto were both hired the same Off season as Jerry. Those would be the two to compare him too if any one is bored.

Wow, that's even worse than a guy I used to play with who was a #8 overall pick in the draft. He did this at a time when it was virtually impossible to strike out 200 times in one season: https://www.baseball-reference.com/regi ... eer-001bri He actually got two call-ups while this was going on. Eventually he was an all-star in AA ball but then a skiing accident gave him vertigo and that was it for him.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2026 8:52 pmGareth Morgan is my fav Jack Z pick. Re: Jerry Dipoto and Position Players
Its blatantly obvious that only 1 position players over 5 WAR in 11 drafts for the M's is piss poor.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2026 8:53 pmThe thread figured it out. How about Jeff Luhnow Astros GM from 2012-2019
Carlos Correa 47.0 WAR
Ramon Lauerano 17.4 WAR
Alex Bregman 46.1 WAR
Kyle Tucker 28.0 WAR
Myles Straw 10.4 WAR
Jake Myers 7.4 WAR
Chas McCormick 5.8 WAR
Josh Rojas 5.1 WAR
Jeremy Pena 21.5 WAR
That's 9 players in 8 years who managed more than 5 WAR.
