Hahah - there are some hilarious comments here. I think realistically people should be able to gamble whereever it is legal. It is not my thing, never has been as I assume anything I am putting down I am losing, so I have no motivation. The problem with this situation is NFL players basically have insider information - they know the matchups, the unreported injuries, the beefs, there are so many pieces of data they have the general public does not - that is is the same as insider trading, IMO. They are incentivized to gamble - in the same way congressmen are all millionaires off on insider trading based on thier knowledge of legislation they are passing and the subsequent stock market manipulation that will follow.

it's only a matter of time. Imagine a 'bookie' who takes bets from a player - can now leverage that player or threaten to expose them. It's the logical progression. A dropped pass, a fumble, a missed assignment. It's inevitable that's where this leads.

Within 5 years I fully expect a major gambling scandal to break out - the league is ALL about gambling now - it just seems so obvious it's inevitable. Naturally the NFL will shrug their shoulders and say "ooooops!" like they always do and pretend nothing's wrong.

The hypocrisy of the NFL - taking millions from gambling sites like fan duel - encouraging gambling - while expecting the players - who have inside scoop - to avoid it. Kinda like expecting members of congress to avoid the stock market while passing bills that directly effect it.

Tick tock to the inevitable conclusion of games being influenced - and then the NFL shrugging it off with nonsense soundbites like "... just an isolated incident..." or "we take gambling very seriously." So predictable.

Well said. This is the third or 4th instance - recently - of these stories leaking - there is no way the problem isn't much worse. The bigger picture problem for the NFL is the loss of integrity - consumers consume the NFL assuming the games have integrity - when you add in suspect officiating (Seattle v Steelers anyone?) and now players gambling on the games - the average fan is getting ripped off. When the big one breaks - and it will - how will the NFL ever save face? How will you ever draw fans back? How could a consumer justify $500 to go to a game - when it may already be decided before the kickoff? That's where this is headed. Anyone not telegraphing this is being wilfully ignorant. Like you said - it's about being ruled greed. Pigs get fat, pigs get slaughtered. The NFL "We're all about safety!" Also the NFL: "We're adding more games!" The hypocrisy - it's on a level comparable to politicians.

We should start a thread where everyone gets to predict the "PR spin" the NFL ilk will try and con the public with when the big one falls. That would be priceless.

Sure politicians are generally loose with the facts and bend them to fit their purposes, but it is the leftists who now control every institution that live by lies and push the biggest ones.
