Some would argue the new season begins with the draft or the beginning of the free agent signings, or even the day after the Super Bowl.

To me, when you say "this" you are referring to the present one if it is still occuring and the next one if it isn't. "Next" to me always means the next occurence, so "this" and "next" usually refer to the same thing in the off-season or before a day that is less than a week away. There is also a tradition of "next" meaning the one after the next occurence.

I just went to the PFN mock draft page just to see where they rated some of the guys that dropped (like McIntosh)... but they've already put next years draftees and draft order up! Seahawks pick 19, and two Huskies went in the top 15 (Odunze and Trice). Penix rated #33 overall.

I like Penix even though he's a system QB and gets injured too easily. However I wouldn't be mad if this is who they selected. I loved watching him at UW.

I don't think he'll beat Brown out year 1, but you don't know 'til you see them all play. Could happen. At least we now have some depth and competition at C and RG.

Brown and Haynes are good gate keepers - if the rookies beat them out, that's gravy.

He has impossibly tiny hands - 8 ⅝!!!!

If I would have said I don't think he will start this season but I think he will start next season nobody would have questioned it. This and next refer to two different seasons. Nothing should have changed because I didn't say the first part . This is my last post on this inane topic. LOL

Don't know about the "system QB" part, as he's had success in the two systems he's been in, but the injury thing is a real concern. I am pretty sure that's a big reason he came back for another year at UW - that would give him two seasons injury-free (knock on wood) to alleviate those concerns.

I like everything about him - leadership is amazing, he's positive, smart, great arm, adequately mobile. Other UW QBs have given similar impressions and didn't pan out in the pros, though, so we'll see about that. I'll be happy with a Heisman and National Championship.

I don't know about that. I would find that wording confusing but would assume you meant "the season after this coming season" with your usage of "next". But without that context i would assume you meant the coming season by "next". Maybe if you said "the next" instead of just "next" it would seem right to me, but that doesn't mean it seems wrong to other people. Anyway....

#33 overall? I don't know if he's even the 4th best QB in the Pac-12 honestly. Yet things have to still playout. #33 just seems very generous IMO.
