Finally! Official Hot Stove League thread!
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League thread!
The exact quote from Divish was, "I am sure they have had internal discussions about him, they talk about every free agent"

Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League thread!
btw last season Chapman put up 4.4 WAR and Rojas and Urias combine for 0.2 WAR last season.

Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League thread!
start listening at the 9 minute mark. They are actually discussing whether it is better to add Chapman now and have a 4 win player for a FULL season vs. trading for a guy that will only be on the team for TWO months.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 3:47 pmAccording to Divish, the M's are still checking in on Chapman.

So the new guy would have to put of 4 WAR in 2 months, a 12 Win season pace to just Equal a full season of Chapman and these Experts are hemming and hawing about what is the better option. Holy Fuck there are so dumb people in this world.

You say a billionaire owner, isn't he a bit under a billion? And ohtani, a single player signed for almost half his net worth. Think about it, that seems kinda incredible to me, modern baseball economics. I don't know if it's so much being cheap as being cautiousCoeurd’Alene J wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 2:57 pmD-train wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 12:18 pmI have been telling you guys this for a long time. Logan’s agent called it garbage. Wtf
And if this year and the next 2-3 we end up saving our payroll and never experience a deep playoff run and never extend any of the young core with a billionaire Owner who cares more about his balance sheet than hoisting a trophy…………………………………………….

The thing is the ownership group is a partnership and we don't even know for sure that Stanton has the largest stake in the team. But none of the owners, as far as I know, are so rich that losses from their investment in the team don't matter the same way they don't matter to the wealthiest owners in the game. And I think a few of the owners are relative small fry, where losses and a capital call really would matter.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 7:06 pmYou say a billionaire owner, isn't he a bit under a billion? Maybe it is Griffey that is unwilling to step up to pay FAs!

I was wondering that as well. Stanton has Lincoln's job doesn't he? Everyone acts like he's the owner I wondered if there had been a change, he had bought out the other owners but it's still the same situation, that group of owners. I think the team is managed to avoid a cash call like it's the plagueGL_Storm wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 10:20 pmThe thing is the ownership group is a partnership and we don't even know for sure that Stanton has the largest stake in the team. The owners stepped up, saved baseball and all that. And they will make plenty of profit whenever the team is sold. But until then I think they view it pretty much as a passive investment. I don't believe they are tapping current profits but they aren't interested in investing anymore of their respective wealth. That could be solved of course by selling the team to a more aggressive owner.
