Trading him wasn't the stupid part....pissing him off was.

He wanted to be gone. Look at his numbers the year we traded him. It was like he was a new man as soon as he left.

That too, they were worried about his back issues and wouldn't extend him. Biggest mistake the franchise ever made and probably cost us at least one pennant. And that 1998, he had several games with us where he gave up a lot of runs and then he went to Houston and threw four shutouts in eleven starts.

It was a mistake no doubt but at least they didn't get totally fleeced in the deal. Garcia, Guillen and Halama was a pretty good haul. Not as bad as the Varitek and Lowe for Slocumb deal where they traded away two guys who ended up with a combined 58 WAR for reliever who was sporting a 5.79 ERA at the time of the trade and gave them 0.4 WAR in a year and a half.

Unfortunately, for some reason, they traded Guillen for a pile of shit, and he became a stud in Detroit!

Otherwise, the trade of Randy would’ve been a real success.

In his first four seasons at Arizona after we stupidly traded him away he reached his peak and had an ERA of 2.48. Do the Arizona/Seattle conversion and I think he's definitely under 2.00.

It’s amazing that a 6 foot 10 guy could throw so hard for so long, without hardly any arm problems.
